Libre Office 4.0 blank menus
« on: March 05, 2013, 12:26:47 PM »
After upgrading to 4.0 I now have the same symptoms as identified here http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?action=post;topic=108514.15
I've re-booted several times tried a complete uninstall/reinstall of Libre Office, turned off desktop effects - nothing seems to work. I have installed every version of PCLinuxOS out there. I know for a certainty it does not effect LXDE. Everything works as it should after upgrading to 4.0. I had thought it might be related to my graphics adapter (Intel) on my laptop but that can't be the case or LXDE wouldn't work. I re-installed PCLinuxOS KDE from the 2013-02 release but did not format my /home partition in case you wondering, since it seems to be related to KDE. I'll re-boot into the other Desktops and post results from them. Full Monty will be interesting. Post back later :(

Have checked and it works perfectly in LXDE, OpenBox and Full Monty. Only the main KDE version has the problem described above.

FullMonty and KDE are virtually identical desktop environments. Can you test what it looks like in a new user account (without any desktop effects)?

I did exactly as you said. With a new user everything is dependent on desktop effects. Enabled and I have blank menus. Disabled all is normal. However, even with my original user account disabling desktop effects logging out and in I still have the blank menus. Tried re-booting too. Same thing. I also noticed that the title bars on my applications are quite different between the two user accounts. I must have at sometime in the past made changes to the defaults. Don't know if they're related but this would explain why the defaults aren't there as I did not format my /home partition. I don't want to lose my personal files (although I do have a full working backup if the need arises). Might it be possible to delete the .kde folder and try that? Also I'm not sure how to insert an image of my title bar. I used KSnapshot to grab this region clicked on insert image on this page but only see a link to my file. Can someone help me to put the image on this page?

Egg on my face. Although I disabled DE's via the Configure Your computer, I did not do so via the Configure Your Desktop. Once both were disabled LibreOffice 4.0 behaves normally. All menus are populated. The title bar was simply set to laptop so that's why it was different. Strange that this only started with 4.0 and not before. :-[
You were certainly heading in the right direction by suspecting desktop effects with your comment about KDE and Full Monty being very similar Pinoc. As you well know one difference between the two comes to desktop effects. Full Monty cannot use them. Good detective work in suspecting them. So I guess I'll have to go with no effects. Curious that only LibreOffice is affected by the DE's being enabled.
