You should look at the "provides" of the -devel package to see if there is an architecture neutral virtual provide for the lib and use that where possible.
For example:

Code: [Select]
[terry@localhost ~]$ rpm -q --provides lib64qt4-devel
qt-devel = 4.8.4-2pclos2013
qt4-devel = 4.8.4-2pclos2013
libqt4-devel = 4.8.4-2pclos2013
...

So you could use qt-devel, qt4-devel or libqt4-devel.  If there is no architecture neutral VP then you will need to use the %{_lib}qt4-devel format.

Terry.

So it means that in this particular instance it is OK not to use %{_lib} but it has to checked for in each individual use case elsewhere and no generalization can be done, right?
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

Installed qt-update-notifier on a test installation of KDE 32bit MiniMe.

I guess the issue with the program going under "file tools" should be already fixed.

On first run, I get the message in the tooltip "waiting for 5 minutes before checking for updates"
Can this be changed at this stage? (maybe by editing the file ~/.config/qt-update-notifier/qt-update-notifier.interval)

I waited those 5 minutes and let the program do its thing.
According to the log, the check was performed, updates were found but no indication in the system tray.
Tooltip only says: "next update check will be on..."

After that, I selected "check for updates" by right-clicking on the icon.
Icon turned to something that looks like a cloud.
After about 20 seconds, tooltip changes to: "there are updates in the repository"
The icon doesn't change to reflect this change in the status, nor there is a notification about available updates.
But if I left-click on it, it changes to a "UN" icon.

Again, with right-click, I selected "open Synaptic" and performed a system update.
After that, I did a new "check for update" with qt-update-notifier and correctly showed no updates found.

These are my first notes on the program.
If you would like me to make more tests or look for something in particular, please ask.

And one question: can custom icons be used with this notifier?
If yes, I could make some suggestions if you are interested.

+1 to all the above .......  that is how it behaved here also

One thing to add .........  the log window does not update in real time .......  it needs to be closed and reopened to display the latest entries in the log .........  it would be nice if this could be changed .......

Please send any project improvement ideas to this official thread regarding qt-update-notifier development.
http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,112999.0.html
I think good feedback shall make this a really useful project.

-----------------------

I have updated the package to 1.1.1 as per muungwana's post above and will upload the new build shortly.

Build updated to 1.1.1 version. The links are on the first post of this thread.
Currently the .spec still does not use %{_lib} as in this case it is not needed.

i just made a version 1.2.0 release.
This release uses a forum member icons as seen here: http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,112999.msg968913.html#msg968913

It also fixes the problem where the proper icon does not show when there are updates.

url to the new version is: https://github.com/mhogomchungu/qt-update-notifier/tree/v1.2.0

will appreciate sling-shot if you could package this too and my apologies for inconveniencing you with all these updates.

I built 1.2 on 32-bit and 64-bit and so far everything looks good. The improvements are good. I'll keep them running and see how it goes. Thanks.

One more suggestion:  ;)
All of the other menu items begin with the first word uppercase. It's a small detail, but I think we should be consistent.

The update notifier did not come up after a reboot. I have a laptop and the network is not always immediately available on booting. Is the default behavior to not start if there is no network?

It doesnt autostart at login. You have to manually set up your login session to autostart it at log in.You can do that by starting "system settings->system administration->startup and shut down->autostart->add program" and then look for it in the dialog box that will show up andd it.I cant say where it will be because i am not using a standard pclinuxo KDE install.

If there is no internet, the check for update will terminate prematurely and there will be a log entry about it
