Two Questions after installing 2013.02
« on: February 19, 2013, 08:32:52 AM »
Hi All

I've just installed PCLOS 2013.02 over my 2012.06 - All went well and I like what I see!!

Just two questions - hope someone can help.

1) The installation has NOT picked-up the correct resolution for my monitor. I need around 1280x1024 and it has set-up with a maximum of 1024x768.
How can I correct this??

2) I was using Scribus 1.4.1 and would like to move to 1.4.2 but all Synaptic brings up now is 1.3.9!!!
What repo must I use to get the 1.4.x series please??

Thanks for any help.

To fix your video resolution
Open PCC ( configure your computer )
click on Hardware
Click on Configure Your Video Card
then check and alter as needed

for scribus 1.4.1 add testing in Synaptic.
Don't forget to remove testing after you installed scribus.

Thanks DeBaas

But I'm afraid you have to be a bit more specific for me!!

What exactly do you mean by "Add Testing" and how do I do that??

Also why must I remove it afterwards??

PS is 1.4.2 not available on PCLOS yet??

In Synaptic there is a line
main updates nonfree kde games xfce4

change:
to
main updates nonfree kde games xfce4 testing
reload > search > scribus
(Do NOT update all or you get many untested and/or unstable packages from testing on your system)
Mark scribus for update/install
Apply.
After install remove testing and reload to be sure not to get unwanted packages from testing.
Now you have scribus 1.4.1 on your system.

Unless something was broken, there was no need to install the latest ISO over your old installation.

Pclos is rolling release, which means it is continuously upgraded through Synaptic and there is almost never a need to re-install as you already have the latest. As you discovered, versions can actually go backwards when you install from a newer ISO, because it's still older than the repo, probably even on the day it's released!
