Started another post on this problem about possible video problem, now I think(?LOL)! a  distro problem! Maybe? that's why I am here you guys are so good!!
Here goes. I have a brand new Levono y580. After my other post they said something about Nvidia's optima. Here is what my trying as a newbie was and the results.
1st a lot of reading, then I thought since I had used PCLOS to help me install Win7Pro instead Win8(the PC Desktop and maybe the market killer IMHO LOL) The version I used worked and used disk tools to undo GPT to MBR, note deleted partions that worked and fdisk.
2nd I uninstall the Nvidia driver and installed the mfg. driver. results: no change same fatal error. no screen. I tried to understand what was on the screen and I think it has something to with x org?
3rd Since I had a PCLOS working on this computer even with UEFI and GPT boot, it made me wonder. So I tried the ISO I had used to fix partions. results: PCLOS loaded!! and sort of worked, no internet, but I have Intel Pro wireless so I am sure there is work around for that(that wrapper thingie LOL I have learned!) and screen resolution also I am sure there is a way to correct that and my touchpad tapping didn't work I had to use the buttons so ruff. LOL
So I am asking what is the difference between 2011.09 and 2013.02 to cause this error??
Also I was thinking(not always good LOL) since the old worked I could update till the problem reappears if it would help. I have lots of free time and brain space. New at being 100% disable and without working and stuff I don't do anymore I don't have very much to do with my time!!
I would like to help if I could it will help me learn and give me something to do. I also have another older computer and a crossover network cable. I could try changes to 2011.09 and try on y580?? I also bought a new USB wireless lan thing Linux ready so I will have internet! Also have USB drive 128gb to use.
Thanks for you're efforts Please help! I really WANT!! PCLOS on my computer after my Win8 taste!!

My opinion is kernel...
If it possible to load an older Iso, and you get it up to date, so try it.

Daniel

I got unnetboot something like that LOL(not young anymore). I just need a place to find PCLOC ISO's that way I can see where that error happens, then update from there. Just so I can know, can I update the the OS on a LiveUSB? That way in case an update causes the error I will learn what it is!

I agree with Daniel and maybe it is the os. He didn't say if it was kde ( 2011.09 and 2013.02 ), one could be kde3, the other kde4.

When you're creating your Live USB, from an .ISO, or Remaster, whatever, there is a section about boot options. Choose, 'Persistence' ; any changes you make are kept on the newly created System.

Thanks everyone!!

I used KDE and the latest XLCE.

 Thinking maybe the kernel.

I tried MINT 14 mat. and it loaded! For those that know could you tell some differences between PCLOS 2013 and Mint 14 that maybe the source of this error.

Also is it possible edit the ISO's or some command to get another kernel loaded?? I will be searching on how to get centrino n2200 working and the touchpad as these both aren't working in 2 distro's I've gotten to load.

I will also be trying some other distro's but I am going to get PCLOS working!! Love a challenge and learning something new, a good chance to start working on my command line's!

Hi noob420 , maybe take one thing at a time. You mention a lot of OS's. From what I can gather you'd like PCLOS to work on your "brand new Levono y580."

So I am asking what is the difference between 2011.09 and 2013.02 to cause this error??

There is a tremendous lot of difference between 2011.09 and 2013.02;  if you are using KDE, there's a huge jump from KDE 4.6.5 to KDE 4.8.3.  http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,108162.0.html
Our latest version of KDE is 4.9.5 in PCLinuxOS 2013.02
You can find kernel's in Synaptic, just search.

We've also recently changed our servers I don't know if you are looking for PCLinuxOS 2011.09, or have it ?
All servers are in sync by now.
A Search of the forum should give a result of someone hosting older versions of PCLOS, the newest being available from this page: http://www.pclinuxos.com/?page_id=180

Personally I would download the 2013.02 version of PCLOS KDE, make a Live USB and start tinkering with it, making a new thread to get help. PCLinuxOS works on a lot of people's Computers, I'm sure it could on yours too.  ;)

PCLinuxOS is a 'rolling release'. Meaning a new version can be Installed from a fresh .ISO, or you can start off at as you're suggesting; with PCLOS 2011.09, and apply updates incrementally till you are fully updated. However this scenario is most times only for people who installed PCLOS in 2011, and have updated incrementally to the present day.
Updates come as packages are built. Updating from an install of 2011.09 via Synaptic to the present would very likely not work due to the large amount of updates that would be applied, it would most likely fail.

Hope some of what I've posted is of some help.  ;)
