I originally posted this in the
Gwenview segmentation fault topic, however since many other programs seem to be affected by recent updates I thought I had better open a new topic. It looks like the 2 recent updates I did broke more than the Gwenview plugins. Now I cannot open any movies (avi, mpeg, mp4, wmv) in kplayer, mplayer or vlc. The 2 updates I did are:

At the moment Synaptic is showing the following installed packages as obsolete:
libavfilter1
libavformats52
libpostproc51
libswscaler0
libvpx0
I cannot remove them as doing so would remove many other programs such as ffmpeg, calligra, kde-baseapps - virtually my entire KDE system. Trying to play a wmv movie in mplayer via Konsole gives the following error:
mplayer: error while loading shared libraries: libvpx.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I have both libvpx0 & libvpx1 as well as libvpx-devel & libvpx-utils installed. libvpx0 is shown as obsolete, but removing it would remove a couple of dozen other packages such as gstreamer, kde-multimedia, mplayer, libalsa-plugins.
