Upgrade failure - X w/n start GLX module failed to load - SOLVED
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:19:57 PM »
Hey there guys and gals...

I just did a synaptic update, loading 46 files (only two weeks since last update).

Boot

OS Selection screen - choose PCLinuxOS2013
Progress Panel - Booting the System
Command Line Screen:

PCLinuxOS release 2013 for i586
Kernal 2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs on dual processor i686 / tty
login:

Startx

Current version of pixman:0.24.4

Do I have an easy way out of this?  Can I unload the last changes?

As always, thanks for your help.

You can't teach an old dog new tricks, but sometimes he doesn't remember the old tricks...

Okay for reference:

I tried to load Synaptic from the command line and got a GTX-warning cannot open display.

Then I tried to reload KDM, etc. with Apt-get (damn that server is slow), no joy, no help, no change!

Then I tried to run XFdrake, which was successful, changed the vid card to a generic, rebooted and went through a (pretty) normal boot cycle to a new (for me) login page... it was not the normal Oxygen theme.  A black screen with a center panel in silver with the blue KDE logo.  My two logins are not pre-identified, so I login as root by actually typing ROOT, it brings up my normal (root) wallpaper, but not my normal apps and configuration. So I change users to my individual name, and my root configuration is displayed - but I am not Root?

I'm alive, I'll live for another day... but I'm confused.  Think I'll get a glass of wine and contemplate...

Update:

I was wrong, my login accounts are just fine.  I guess a glass of wine and a nights sleep make a difference in ones visualization!

I don't understand the different login panel, but I'll play with it to see if I can understand what I'm looking at!

I know no one responded to my request for help... But I would not have solved this without you guys and this forum.  Thanks

 ;)
