Do you have   pavucontrol   installed and does PulseAudio Volume Control launch without error?

With it open play an audio file in some application.

Go to the Playback tab, and check to what sound device the sound from that application is being sent.

Ensure the sound is sent to the correct device and that the volume is high enough.

You should see confirmation of the sound variations on the line below the entry ....  the blue colour will vary with sound out.

You should see something like this if sound is being sent to the sound device

Try something other than Clementine ....  maybe VLC .....  to see if it makes any difference.

If PA Vol Control is launching correctly then PA is working well, in my experience.

What hardware is involved?

aplay -l     (lowercase L)

should show the devices.

Is that the only option available?

On one PC here with similar audio hardware there are two options .....  clicking on the 'button' shows the second.

Ensure you have "Analogue Stereo Output" selected on the Configuration tab.

....  and on the Output tab, Analog Output is selected and not headphones.

[root@localhost jaysin2]# alsamixer

i also get:
[root@localhost jaysin2]# alsactl store
