No desktop after running FM-widgets-setup
« on: February 15, 2013, 06:26:24 AM »
Hi,
I don't exactly remember the name of the widget unlocker/setter-upper in full-monty,
but I just ran it... OY!
I wanted to add the weather widget I used to have before fm, so I went to desktop 6
and clicked on the setup icon. It asked the standard question 'which desktop to start with',
I left that as is and went on to the next step. 'which resolution, or unlock widgets'.
I clicked the unlock button, and went on. I believe there is another OK to click,
then my screen went black. And that's where it is. No desktop. No launcher menus.
No taskbar, clock, or desktop background. Just black. If I cycle through desktops,
I can see open program windows (thank goodness FF was running so I can post this),
but desktops with nothing running are just a plain black screen.

Help!!!
What do I do now?

Press Cntrl+Alt+Backspace simultaneously; that should take you to the login screen - login and see if problem has gone

I will try to remember for next time.

I gave up before, and from an open dolphin I used the tool menu to get a
konsole. From there I did a kill of my startkde task. That also got me a login
screen :(
Does your suggestion allow me to retain everything as is, without the forced logoff?

Thanks,
Shimon
