Problem with my external modem
« on: April 19, 2013, 08:07:48 AM »
Hi,
I have a HW problem, which does not really look like it's PCLOS related,
but you guys are my best place to turn with questions!

I have an external USR modem, which *used to* work just fine.
I haven't turned it on in a while, and today, when I did, it acts
insane.

AA CD and CS are all lit, RD SD and TR blink intermittently (with
mo application actively accessing the modem). I started up KPPP
and did a query of the modem, and the returned data is corrupted:

ATI3: USRobots Spore 3360ev. 2.
ATI4: USRobo Spoter Voi600ax Setgs...      B  E0  FM1  Q  V1  X Y0     UD=240PARIT  WOR   DIAL=T

and the next time I query, different junk:

ATI3: SRobotics Sportster Voic33600 ax RS Rev. 2.0
ATI4: USRobotics Sportster Voic600 ax Settgs...      B0 E01  M1  Q1  V1X4  Y0     BAU=115200 PARITY=N  WORDEN=8

My question is, does anyone have any idea where the problem is?
Is my modem toast?
Or do I need a new rs232 cable?
Or is my motherboard serial port fried?

Thanks for any advice!
Shimon
