KOrganizer - All calender reminders disappeared
« on: February 14, 2013, 01:17:55 PM »
All the reminders I entered in KOrganizer have disappeared. The folders are still in my Home directory but when I try to import them I get an error message unable to fetch. This message occasionally occurs at start up. Does anyone know of a fix for this?

You may be able to do it via

Config Your Desktop > Workspace Appearance and Behavior > Akonadi Configuration > Akonadi Resource Configuration

to then use the Add option to select the appropriate "type"  and then drill down to where your data is stored

PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Reboot, then open Korganizer again. If still not there, go to Korganizer - Settings- Sidebar-Show Calendar Manager-- that will open the Calendar manager at Bottom left. Put a Check Mark in the Calendar you are using. It will repopulate. For some reason it keeps failing to connect every few start ups.
Could also just log out and back into kde instead of restarting-- It is a kde problem.

Thank you for your suggestions. Having tried them all out the only thing that has changed are the error messages.
On boot I get the message:-
Fetch job error- Plasma Desk Shop Shell
Unable to fetch item from back end (collection4). Unable to retrieve items from resource. Invalid item retrieval

On opening KOrganizer I get the same message with the heading:-
                    Fetch job error- KOrganizer

I believe this is an Akonadi problem which occurred for no obvious reason.

The folder in my Home Directory is icalout.ics.

i think that:
a) akonadi has problem with it's config
b) file is somehow broken

I suggest to try to remove all akonadi configs (located in ~/.config/akonadi and ~/.local/share/akonadi) and then try to configure korg once again. If this won't work then we shall think what else we can do.

That's the error messages I get every so often and then my calendar disappears. I just reboot computer, or restart KDE and then the calendar should show up in the calendar list, BUT unchecked, So have to check it and calendar works again. It has happened to me on more then one occasion and on several computers. The way I said always works.

It seems that the KDE developer team just could not be bothered to fix Kontact and things associated with the mail program . These problems have been going on for a year now.

Have tried removing all the config files and doing a complete reinstall but the problem still exists. It's a pity as KOrganizer on it's own is an excellent program. Is there a viable alternative I can try?

How did you set the calendar up?
I right clicked in the calendar manager window at bottom left of Korganizer then Add Calendar (if that box isn't there add it by Settings- Sidebar- Show Calendar Manager)
Then select ICal calendar file (loads date from a calendar file)
Then click on the folder by the 1st box and go to your .ics file
Then give it a name in box 2 then click OK
Make sure there is a Check mark by the new "calendar" you created.

Used your method of setting up the calender and on a test run every thing worked O.K. Thanks for the info.

Glad to have helped. Remember it will not log in every so often, just restart KDE and put the check mark back in that box next to the calendar you just set up. At least until they fix the problem.   ;)
