lxde64 synaptic repositories problems
« on: February 11, 2013, 09:05:26 PM »
Not sure where to direct this.  just installed lxde 64 and had troubles updating and loading programs.  There seems to be a few programs missing in the repositories and I'm wondering if it is because of the 64 bit issue.   I can't live without Irfanview (If you have to say "have you tried Gimp" then you've NEVER used Irfanview) and it is not in the repositories as usual.  Wine tricks will not install because Wine Geko is missing.  I can't find Cinelerra either.

I noticed in the repository Distribution it shows "pclinuxos/2011" and in sections(s) it shows "x86_64 kde xfce4 "   2011 seems kinda old and non of the repositories have a "x86_64 kde xfce4 " directories.  But not sure what all that means.   I also see almost all repositories are "could not finds."

The 64-bit repos has a significant number of apps still missing. Most of these are obscure, and a few may be obsolete, but there are many needed/wanted apps left to package. Someone is working on wine-gecko, I believe, but some of these apps are very complicated and will take some more time.

Since PCLinuxOS is a rolling distribution, the directory name does not change when packages get updated. 2011 just means that the 64-bit repo was begun in 2011. If the directories were changed to reflect the current year, then every user would have to update their sources.list.

64 bit has not been released ......  and is not yet ready for release .....  you are using a Release Candidate #1 ......  when it is ready for release you can expect most of the same applications to be present as are available on the 32 bit official release.

Just built wine-gecko and IrfanView for 64bit. Both working fine.
After you have installed wine-gecko you can then install wine-tricks.

hope that helps,

Thanks Guys.  That's what I call service!  "No quite ready for prime time."  Now if I could get Cinelerra I won't bug you for a while.  I'm getting some old home movies from the 40's & 50's and some older and some recent videos togther and want to try to string them together for a familiy reunion this summer.  I've dabbled with Cinerlerra and I've heard it is pretty good and now I want to put it to the test.
