based on that logic, yes, 10 more years

not sure if that is good or bad

seeing posts of users complaining for problems with their PIII machines running into 32 bit problems  :-\

Well it looks like overall we will be keeping 32 bit for a long while.

Me, I am going to go the 64 bit way once it goes gold. Presently I do not see any dealbreakers yet. And I see the faster bootup / shutdown ( are they because it is faster or because 64 bit has lesser things setup by default ?) and better responsiveness of desktop to be a significant advantage.

I have been putting some time into learning 32 bit packaging for sometime now. The added complications of 64 bit and sometimes 32-64 dual packaging seem a little too much to handle for my limited patience/time. Will keep looking...

NOTE : This thread arose because I have been watching Chakra for sometime now. They have just done it - that is gone exclusively 64 bit to concentrate efforts.

I do understand the need to keep both for us. I am happy that users are placed first here :)
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

2 x 32 bit and 2 x 64 bit machines in my room.
Demand for Linux at the computerclub often for the older, 32bit.
There are also demands for the non pae kernel ;)
So 32bit is not over yet.
It will shift in 5 or 10 years, but for now the answer on:
Can PCLinuxOS go 64 bit only once we complete the 64 bit job?
is No.
