In System Settings - Multimedia - Phonon try the different devices.  If that doesn't work, try changing the back end.

Ragan

Is pulse Audio installed and running?
If so, try to remove it.

I had some problems with Pulse Audio. So, I decided uninstall it and now the audio works fine.
