I just like the Adobe Reader GUI much more than Okular's. It is much better designed and much more intuitive.

In a way I understand the esoteric appeal of Adobe Reader, but, and just my opinion, I find the security problems with Adobe Reader large and persistent enough to make do with Okular, Evince, or Foxit readers.

while pretty, that app has been a pita in linux in the past

install it was a error and remove it, was fun to fix the mess it left behind

we don't like it much in linux for being so popular at being a security risk

that is  why i asked if you really need it

I wasn't aware that Adobe Reader had security flaws--thanks for the info, guys. In light of that, I guess I can live without it. . . .

adobe gets lots of patches because it has lots of security problems

that is why it is not first on the list of apps to be added to the new version

it is on repos because some users need it for specific tasks like edit fields on the files and similar specific tasks that can be performed in it

we recommend not to use it but if you need it, it should be there isn't?

foxit is not yet on 64 bit repo, that is why okular is the solution for the moment

I can understand someone using Adobe Reader over Okular.

My reason is that last time I checked, Okular will not allow you to change the text size on a PDF document and then rewrap the text so that the formatting stays the same only the text can be large enough for some of us who need it.

Okular and the other programs I have tried simply will not do this but Adobe reader will.... If you don't mind figuring out how to set it up to do it again after every %$##% update.

Setpoint,

If you have a fairly new fast machine, have you considered running one of the minimal version of 32 bit PCLOS in Virtualbox with it set up to share the folder that you save your PDF documents in?

That way, if you have not yet tried Virtualbox, it will give you some valuable experience using it.

I always download PDF documents and then View them in Adobe reader rather than using a PDF plugin in the browser.

In fact, I hate that all the browser folks seem to want to force you to use their preferred plugin rather than defaulting to an external reader the way it used to be done.

ThirdOfSix--

That's an excellent idea--to run Adobe Reader 32-bit version in VirtualBox.  Thanks for your suggestion.  I have a newish PC that should be able to handle the load, and--accordingly--have just installed VirtualBox in order to try your suggestion.  Learning how to use VB may take a little time while I learn the ropes, but I will report back here how things go.

to run virtualbox you basically need is ram, a atom at 1.6 can handle a xp or a win 7 install easily, i had done that, the problem is the ram

about wine and adobe reader 32 bit, i have been using wine in 64 bit and is doing great, have you tried adobe win 32 bit this way?

since it is a rc1 being used as a testing bed, what risk?  ;)

Adobe Reader still not available in repo

We don't need no stinking Adobe Reader in the repo ;D

There is foxit, there is okular and many many more... Why would we add this security risk that pretends to be a pdf reader to our repo?
