Steam issue.... [solved]

Well, I installed Steam in PClos64 and all seemed well. I decided to download a free game, just to check things out, so I selected "Team Fortress" and it downloaded just fine. When I went to play the game, I got this error message:

"Required OpenGL extension "GL_EXT_texture_sRGB_decode" is not supported. Please update your OpenGL driver"

I cannot find any "OpenGL" updates available in Synaptic, so I'm stuck at this point. This occurred a few days ago, and I wanted to give Tex and the gang a chance to check things over before posting, but alas... no solution has appeared, thus my asking.

Thanks agmg,

I went through that post and it looks like a newer driver is going to be the answer to all my issues.  I had thought AMD/ATI had advanced more that this, thus my leap of faith in building a new computer with an A8 APU..... I guess I'm going back to Nvidia discreet cards in the future....   I have made a more detailed reply with some questions for you in my other post regarding ATI drivers.

There is a newer fglrx amd driver in the test section. I'll provide directions if you still need it.

Galen, after a goof in a posting on my part, I got the info on how to add "test" to Synaptic and downloaded the newer driver which works great, no more watermark AND Steam now works as well.

AMD has a bad history with fully supporting OpenGL.
