Windows Decor and Desktop Themes
« on: February 11, 2013, 02:03:53 AM »
Running PCL 2013 /KDE

I've installed a few different of the above to see which I like best.

How do I remove the ones I don't want?

Does anyone know of a theme that provides a nice Royal blue task bar like that in Windows XP?

How did you install them? If it was through Synaptic, then it should be possible to remove them through Synaptic too.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

I installed them using Configure Your computer which doesn't seem to have an uninstall button.

Tries Synaptic prior to posting but the none are listed to uninstall.

There's no way you can install themes or window decorations from "Configure Your Computer".

The right way is More Applications -> Configuration -> Configure Your Desktop.

There you have 2 options:

Workspace appearance, for changing desktop themes, window decorations, cursors and your splash screen.
Application appearance, for changing color themes, fonts, icons.

You can get new by pressing the "Get new..." button in every category.
I'm guessing this is what you did...
You can also uninstall previously installed themes from there.

Of course, you can manually delete themes, icons and cursors by deleting their corresponding folders from your disk:

System wide desktop themes: /usr/share/apps/desktoptheme
User's desktop themes: ~/.kde4/share/apps/desktoptheme

System wide icons and cursors: /usr/share/icons/
User's icons and cursors: ~/.kde4/share/icons

For more customization options have a look at: www.kde-look.org

Interesting mini tutorial, will see it later  :)

Adding to agmg very useful advice for Configure Your Desktop.

Using  Config Your Desktop > Workspace Appearance and Behavior > Workspace Appearance  - Desktop Theme

You'll see two tabs Theme and Details

On the Theme tab is the Get New Themes option mentioned by agmg

On the Details tab you'll see the Theme Item and Source columns

By selecting one of the Theme items and then clicking on the Source component will open up a drop down window which allows "mixing" various items from different themes - i..e letting you customize to suit

Thanks for the addition, menotu ;)

Only part we haven't covered is this:

Does anyone know of a theme that provides a nice Royal blue task bar like that in Windows XP?

I'm not aware of such a desktop theme for KDE 4.x.
I know some themes that could give a more Vista/Win7 look to your KDE...

But I can't think of a good reason for going back to a more Windows look...
I strongly believe that KDE looks way more better than any version of Windows and, most of all, can be completely customized...

Have downloaded and installed the Sally theme which suits me fine - many thanks.

How do I change the color of the small orange rectangle in the upper right corner where it says PCLinux KDE ?

I'd like to make it a light grey color.

I noticed a text file in the Sally theme folder with color codes but I don't know which one to adjust to change the orange to grey.

The same goes for the Log Out splash background - want to change it from orange to grey.

Can I change the color?

Have solved the problem of colors.

I downloaded Blue Sora theme and copied the required svgz files from widgets and dialogs folders from Blue Sora to Sally
