[SOLVED with update] Bluetooth ... Add Device ... KDE 32 bit
« on: February 12, 2013, 12:18:42 PM »
Trying to add a new BT device in 32 bio KDE has been a 'hit and miss' affair for me for quite some time now.

I go through the procedure of setting the phone in 'discoverable' mode, use the KDE 'Add Device' which launches a window and that tells me it is scanning ..........  well it could go on scanning forever and never find the device!

My solution up to now has been to install
     gnome-bluetooth
and the use
    bluetooth-properties
to launch the gnome version of 'Add Device' called Bluetooth Preferences.

This works immediately!

Helps me set up PIN and connects and all good.

***

So to the reason for this post ......

do others have difficulty in Adding Devices to KDE Bluetooth setup?

Is it something wrong with my install, or is this a general bug we have with KDE bluetooth?

Feedback would be appreciated ......  and might help locate the bug whether on my system only or general.

Thanks.

Well, I'll confess that even though I run KDE, I didn't know KDE had its own Bluetooth implementation until
I read this post.   I've run the the gnome blueman package successfully without any trouble in the past.

I just verified that blueman finds my ROKU and 2 cell phones very quickly.   I then ran "/usr/bin/bluedevil-wizard" and
it scanned forever and never found any device.     Just to make sure, I once again ran "/bin/bin/blueman-manager",
and it quickly found all my bluetooth devices.

Thanks for the confirmation  ;)

Just to point out ... I don't have blueman installed, just gnome-bluetooth, so am using a different method with the gnome apps to achieve the same thing.

$ /usr/bin/bluedevil-wizard
Object::connect: No such signal BlueDevil::Adapter::deviceFound(QVariantMap)
Object::connect:  (receiver name: 'Discover')

This is all I get from the terminal .....

The 1.3 version of BlueDevil should be able to correct this.
I had the same problem and this release seems to fix it.
If you have a spare guinea pig partition I could send some links tomorrow.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(

All my partitions are used as guinea pigs at one time or another  :D

Send away please  ;)

I see a belated release announcement date Feb 10th here

http://www.afiestas.org/bluedevil-1-3-released/

Apparently it is released since end Dec 2012 .....

Sources here
http://download.kde.org/stable/bluedevil/1.3/src/bluedevil-1.3.tar.bz2

Is there any reason a package request for upgrade of this cannot not be made?

I do not think so. Please do make a package request. I am short of time at the moment. Else I may rebuild those myself and submit.

Install libbluedevil first.

Installed this morning ......  rebooted ......  tried 'Add Device' without turning on any new device .....  made my phone discoverable and IMMEDIATELY it popped up in the window.

The update also provides connection options .....  DUN, Send Files and No service setting ........  selecting the No service allowed me to browse the contents of the phone.

So it appears to be functioning properly ....  as much as I use it anyway.

I don't use the DUN service so have not checked that.

This appears to be the solution for the connection troubles that I, and others, have had with KDE bluetooth.

Thanks sling-shot  :D

As this appears to be the solution to the problem, I have made a package update request, and can mark this thread solved.

Thanks to all ... especially sling-shot for providing the solution  ;)

The build linked above is mostly from Release Candidate.

I have yet to upload the release build. Hopefully today.

Considering that this is only a 32 bit build it may not be much useful in the grand scheme of things.

I use Bluetooth DUN a lot and that is something I have been looking forward to eagerly :)
