Citrix?
« on: February 11, 2013, 12:54:44 AM »
I started a new job recently & am trying to log into their network from home. I can get in just fine, but when I try to open anything I get:
Quote
You have chosen to open an ica file, what should firefox do?]

It appears I need to install Citrix Receiver on my PCLOS box so I can access their network from home. I've downloaded the file from the Citrix site ( http://www.citrix.com/downloads/citrix-receiver/receivers-by-platform/receiver-for-linux-121.html )
but don't want to screw anything up by installing from the command line as the citrix site suggests.

Anyone out there have this working?

Thanks,
Dave

I almost had it working under another distro.   I could log in, click on the app I wanted, and the app even opened!  But...the next time I logged in the app would not open.  Then sometimes they would open.  Eventually nothing would open.  This is not any distro's fault, it is due to the Linux product being very buggy.

I assume you are using the XenApp web page to launch applications from inside your work network?  I just run XP inside a VirtualBox VM, and use Citrix from there.  Works flawlessly, and I keep my work stuff, and personal stuff separate.

I have no idea what "Xenapp" is? So far all I've done is logged into the network via FF. I am presented with the exact same options I get when on a machine at the office, but nothing will open, I can't even browse the shared files.
This is all brand new territory for me, so I'm feeling my way around, the IT folks know only windows so I'm on my own.

Well, I'm not gonna pay for a copy of windows to run in a VM & I don't have any viable disks around here. I'm hoping someone's gotten it to work on PCLOS. A forum search on "citrix" only turns up a few threads from a couple of years ago, so I'm not holding my breath....

XenApp is the Citrix product which alows you to launch remote applications via a web page.

I did not say anything about paying for a copy of Windows ;-)  You do not need an extra disk to run an O/S such as XP in a VM.  It will run fine on the same disk as your host O/S.  And it gets rid of a lot of headaches with trying to get software primarily written for Windows to work in a Linux environment.

I think I may have not been clear. The disk I do not have is a CD containing a copy of windows, so installing win in a virtual box is not an option. The last win install I did was win98se & that disk will not work anymore, even if I wanted to try it.

I'd still like to try the citrix install on PCLOS, just to see if I can get it to work

Thanks,
Dave

I have noticed that the Canadian government's Citrix VPN force you to use windows. It forces another program to run between downloading the ICA file and establishing the VPN. Sorry I can't remember the name of the program. The tech support will deny that it runs but it is essential.
Your company may be doing this as well.

Interesting, I guess I won't know until I figure out how to install the citrix receiver. I can log onto the company network without it, but cannot open anything. I really don't need to run any applications remotely, I just want to access the file system.
