icon browser (FOUND)
« on: February 06, 2013, 10:42:05 PM »
I have no idea where I got this, its a program that allows browsing the icons in the /icon folders.  It is NOT in the regular menu of programs anywhere, but I have put it in my favorites section.  Looking at properties in "Favorites" does not yield a clue about it.  It just runs.

Searching for a file in / named "iconbrowser"  yielded nothing.
Searching in synaptic for it also yielded nothing.
Trying to run "IconBrowser" with various spaces and capitalization in terminal does not find anything so it must not be in my paths.

It's a very handy thing to have and I'd like to know where it came from so I won't lose it.

 ???  ???  ???

Doesn't that program have a GUI?
You could look at the Help -> About

Another thought would be to check the processes (Ctrl+Esc) while the program is running to identify its name...

If you are using kde desktop and if it shows the desktop as folder view, you should be able to drag the item from the favorites menu to the desk top and select "link here".

That should put the item on the desktop as a link.

You can then look at "properties > application" and under "command:" it should show the command to run it directly which should tell you where the program resides and what its name is.

First time I've seen it but there is an entry named Icon Browser on my system.

Click on the Kickoff Menu and in the top search area enter icon (nothing else)

You should then see a few entries and one called Icon Browser - select it as normal and it should open.

I have it too! Is it bad, doctor? :P

Well, seems the name of the application is yad-icon-browser
Seems that the package yad provides it.

yad seems to be the solution.   It was installed on my desktop but not my laptop.  So I now have it on my laptop as well.

Thanks guys,  too bad some of these useful things get obfuscated.

It is under

Menu - More Applications - Development .....  Icon Browser

That is hardly the most appropriate place for it .........  ?

I would expect to find it under File Tools or such .......
