connect them together?

;D  :P
what good would that do if both are not on? ;D

on a serious not, there is enough literature on the forum to get the basic idea of what information and questions are usually asked on samba related problems.

Most basic answers to give?
do you have samba server installed and running on the computer you are trying to access files on?
do you have firewall running and if yes,is it configured to accept samba traffic?
can the two computers see each other on the network.

.. tell me something i don't know, something i can use as i struggle to reason with the world around me ..

This I have now sorted out.
The problem was the ADSL router, not working, have to switch it off occasionally. The new one did not connect to internet, nor did the second one and the third one died. So at the moment I am on the very old one and must switch it off occasionally.
I will mark this as solved.
Thanks for all the replies.
