I can't really complain after all the great help I have had here,
and I love using this distro, but... the few product requests I have made never got off the ground. :(

well, you better listen to the advice on what these more experienced users tell u on the forum. Especially what OP had to say about outside packages. If you want the full deal download Monty and use it. It has just about everything there you will ever need,, it takes a little longer to install than say lxde and a little longer on the boot, but just remember the boot time it takes in windows vs Pc Linux. These guys have helped me extensively on my issues and have not been led wrong yet.
regards,
david

There can be many reasons for a request not being fulfilled ..... some examples ...

it does not build easily, or at all, on PCLOS at present
no packager has the time particularly if it is difficult
it is not a well supported request
lack of manpower .....  the packagers are few and overworked, so requests must be prioritised

...  or maybe it was just missed ...

Most requests eventually get attended to .....  patience is sometimes needed   ;)

Okay...thanks y'all! After reading all the replys and this post, http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/board,82.0.html, I promise no more updating outside of the repos! I'll be turning off all "update"s on all apps installed (or will click 'cancel' when prompted)!  ;D  ::)

Why don't you take Crow's advice?

If you want to be adventurous please do it in a Virtual Box install or in another partition so you don't compromise your main install, break and repair an install is an excellent way to learn  ;D

Installing packages from outside the repo on your main system is a very bad idea. Checking them out on a testing system that you can afford to break can be educational.

In my Windows days I was addicted to installing every updated app as soon as they became available. I even installed apps that notified me as soon as any incremental updates appeared.
One day I realised that my system was running ok. What's the rush??
Now that we have an OS that is actively maintained, by people who care, there is even less pressure to keep up.
Having said that...........I am all for updates.........but I broke the obsession.  ;D  ;D
p.s. That sounded like a Sandbox reply. I simply meant to keep updates in perspective.  8)

Could you please list those applications that try to get you to update?
Firefox used to do that and it has been fixed. It no longer does that on its own.
I think LibreOffice may be doing that, but since it is now being provided direct from their own repositories through LOManager, it cannot be fixed I guess.

Ah, I forgot about VirtualBox, but then it has again gone GetVirtualBox... so that cannot be fixed too.

Anything else?
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(
