Very good!

I see on YT that they actually learned the instruments a few months before and while making the movie. That's very impressive.

I was a trumpet player in my high school band and also played in the Swing Band which was also the Pep Band (same members, different music).

I can tell you that playing swing is a lot of fun. Much more so than Bach or Beethoven.

Sorry guys. I'm one of those who don't. Give me Bach or Beethoven any day.

I don't mind swing (and other music), but I'll go with Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky (plus numerous other classical composers)

lol Actually I prefer the 1960s and 70s. I just think the big band era was a great part of musical history. People like
Benny Goodman,Tommy Dorsey, Glenn Miller etc. were cooler than the other side of the pillow.  8) 8)

Bubba has a good point here and that is this,, the type of music is called "Big Band", not "swing".

It didn't all "swing".

There was something about this type of music that made it "swing" and that description still holds true and applies to today's modern music.

Can ANYONE win an invisible prize by describing the magical thing that makes music "swing"?

There is a very specific thing that it needs. ;)

(( Drummers, make me proud of you ))  LOL

Would like both swinging and Bach?

What is swing? I think the key is explained in the movie. It's the "back beat", accentuating on 2 and 4 instead of 1 and 2. But it's more about the free and open feel of the music itself.

Before the Big Band Era, music was very structured. I would say constrained by structure. The Big Bands "borrowed", some would say stole, from the African-American music that was played in the clubs and bars in the New Orleans area. Rock and Roll got it's roots from the same place.

Many people didn't believe that The Swing Girls were actually playing the instruments so they did a tour to prove that they weren't faking it.
