Just17 had a script to do this I think. There was a post by him somewhere which I am unable to dig up.

Yes there is a script (never finished but functional) ......  but honestly I don't think it makes sense in the present circumstances.
Using a USB device in most cases is easier and more suitable .....  it is the same type of 'install' and portable.

I have to agree with this assessment. Before I had any USB flash drives I had a dedicated partition from which to do my installations in the same manner as the liveUSB drives use. Having been once set up, adding a new OS version took only a few minutes, but the original setup was pretty tedious.

Now I have a few USB flash drives and use either the Live USB Creator application, or a dd generated copy of a hybrid image for my installations from the flash drives. The latter works best for me, on one machine, due to a partitioning variance on one of my hard drives for that machine that interrupts the search for the livecd.sqfs file when using the normal Live USB Creator built liveUSB. On other machines, or when that drive (external) is not present, the Live USB Creator built flash drives works perfectly, and as Just17 said, are totally portable.

I use both internal and external partitions for this. My laptop will not boot from a liveusb, (well, it will boot but then fails to find the .sqfs file unless that's on the HDD), so I have to copy the files to a partition on the HDD. However, that's not the norm and is a workaround for a confused UEFI.

It's pretty much the same procedure provided you have a suitable bootloader on the device (or any other device) pointing to /isolinux/vmlinuz and /isolinux/initrd.gz. The livecd.sqfs will be searched for and can be in the top directory of any partition (which is great fun if you have one stored away already and it doesn't match)!

Have you tried isohybrid on the image in question? Then use dd if=<path-to-hybrid-image.iso> of=/dev/sd<flash-drive-designation> bs=2048 as the command to write it to the flash drive.

For me, this gets around the problem of finding the livecd.sqf file without having to copy it to the hard drive.

Just had my first real issue with RC1;
Qbittorrent crashes with segfault.

[newguy@localhost ~]$ qbittorrent %U
Couldn't set environment variable...
Peer ID: -qB2920-
HTTP user agent is qBittorrent v2.9.2

*************************************************************
Catching SIGSEGV, please report a bug at http://bug.qbittorrent.org
and provide the following backtrace:
qBittorrent version: v2.9.2
stack trace:
  /lib64/libc.so.6 : ()+0x32270  [0x7f12f96da270]
  /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 : RC4()+0x419  [0x7f12fc3c7799]
Segmentation fault

I installed Qbittorrent just after the initial update after installing RC1
It has worked fine til a coupla days ago.

edit: reinstalled qbittorrent. Running for 1 hour+. So far so good.
Crashed again. No errors in dmesg.  ???
I revert to Ktorrent for now.

Is it just the tray icon? If so mine is the same, sometimes it's there, sometimes not. Lenovo Thinkpad W500.

Or is the wifi not detected or not connecting?

I'm running both the 32bit and 64bit versions, as I have 2 drive bays, and sometimes my 64bit desktop icons are missing as well when I reboot.

For me these are just little glitches though and don't worry me too much, I wonder how many others there are that aren't being reported as users don't realise their significance?

icon is showed but with a nasty red x :( that is a problem i always had with test x86_64 isos...besides first time i installed the rc and pulled in my wpa key it connected but nettapp icon disapperared, but with a reboot it appeared and all was ok.

the recurring problem is that draknetcenter sees other wifi connections near but not mine  :o...could be a teporary prblem, due to misfunctionin with my line/service only?

EDIT: screenshot!

this time as you can see netapp icon has disappeared at all!!  :o :o

sometimes, when the problem occurs are showed 3-4 wi fi connetcions other times from 5 to 10...but mine nope :,8

on my father laptop (acer win win vista the problem never happens) moreover I had this also with other distros (even ubuntu), though it solves spontaneously. ??? So I think it might me a problem with my service but I'd need some answers from expert guys... :D ;)

Maybe the experts here (not me) need to know what wireless card your L655 has, so that they can help you to make it work properly?

EDIT: It looks like it may be a Realtek card, maybe it needs ndiswrapper/wpa supplicant setting up.

It seems strange that it can see other network SSIDs but not your own, do you have SSID broadcast disabled in your router? Do you have the router on a clear channel?
Can you check whether your router is broadcasting wireless b/g or n? Maybe changing the protocol will help as it seems to be a problem between wireless card, router, and Linux, not just a problem with Linux.

i would think there is a problem with your broadcom wireless card...
do you have the correct drivers installed?

pls. read this (i'm not advising you to install from outside the repo):

Ok, thanks fot the replies!  :-*

it seems that laptop uses a combo of ethernet card and wireless card of two different producers...the core of the problem seems that wifi (the model is reposted in the screenshot) but I continue to think it's a problem of my provider, since it solves itself...I readed about that *hybrid* driver, but it also a bit "complicated" for me  :'(

I'm a bit afraid tampreing with router since i'm very newbie and unexpert... but I'll keep you informed, thanks again!  :-*

The only thing I can think is that perhaps the wireless card in the laptop does not work on all channels and your router is on a channel it cannot see, but that's just a guess, really.

Could it have been made for use in a different part of the world where wifi bands are different, perhaps? Could it be faulty or old, or have out-of-date firmware? Just more guesses, I'm afraid.

I had also the same problem, then removed and installed again wpa_supplicant and mandi from synaptic and then everything works,... and then again I'm doing that every few days,... it seems something is wrong with wpa protocols in PCLOS 64bit, hope they will fix that :-)

The US settings allows only 11  Wifi channels (at least on 54g).
You can set the country settings for more then 11 channels.
