I think probably everybody gets this error message at the end of the install. It doesn't seem to be a problem.  (If it is, I haven't noticed it yet!)

I seem to recall this being asked already, but I haven't been able to locate it... but apologies if redundant.

Are there plans for a 64 mini-me later on  (i.e. when out from rc to pub)?

Cheers!

No official plans yet but seems reasonable that after 64bit is complete and reaches its final release, a MiniMe will soon follow.
And, as always, "it will be ready when it's ready"  :P

Naturally! Hence the question was 'if', not 'when'...  ;D
We do so like our mini-mes in this house!

Thanks for your answer!

I hope this is relevant to the 64bit thread.

I think it's time to move completely to 64bit PCLOS :)

I have a 500GB drive with 32bit fully updated (apart from fglrx), 12GB /, and separate /home partition around 350GB (this drive also dual boots Win7 if necessary)

I have a 160GB drive with 64bit fully updated (apart from fglrx), 12GB /, and separate /home partition on the remainder. (there's nothing critical on this /home, as I've been using it to test RC1 only)

The machine is a Thinkpad with the 500GB drive in its Ultrabay, and will boot from either drive via a BIOS/F12 boot menu

My question is: What is the fastest/safest way to upgrade the 32 bit to 64bit using HDD -> HDD?

Is it from an iso on the smaller drive and overwrite the 32bit partition?

Can I remaster direct from the running 64bit installation on to the old 32bit partition, (and if so, how)?

Or, would it be better to re-install my DVD drive and do it from the RC1 disc?

If I should start another thread I'll do that.

Thanks

1. Backup 32bit /home
2. Use a fresh 64bit iso
3. Install 64bit over 32bit keeping your old /home
(I really don't agree with that but older and wiser members do. Read here)
4. If something goes wrong, restore your backup.

Thanks, I know how to do that.

What I'm really asking is whether there's an alternative to booting/installing from a LiveCD.

Can I install from a mounted iso on the running 64bit system for example, I have the downloaded 64bit iso and want to install from HDD to HDD rather than from a DVD/CD.

Another alternative would be to clone your existing 64bit install on the 32bit partition with clonezilla.
But again, you would need a LiveCD or USB...  ::)

Do you have a USB flash drive? If so, there is always the PCLinuxOS Live USB Creator application.

Yes, I do have a USB drive, I just thought it would be interesting (and faster) to use the ultrabay drive to do a fast "hot" install if it was possible.

Thanks anyway :)

The process to install from a partition on an internal/external HDD is much the same as that from a liveCD/DVD except it has to be set up manually; ie no GUI application to set it up for you. It cannot be done by directly booting from an ISO image.

Just17 had a script to do this I think. There was a post by him somewhere which I am unable to dig up.

Yes there is a script (never finished but functional) ......  but honestly I don't think it makes sense in the present circumstances.
Using a USB device in most cases is easier and more suitable .....  it is the same type of 'install' and portable.
