Check using    lsusb   .....  what is the ID of your Logitech device?

If it is   046d:08c5     the device might be susceptible to the following (although why it worked OK previously I could not explain - timing issue?)

Quote
1 First and second generation Logitech webcams suffer from firmware bug which make the camera somehow unstable. As the issue is timing-related, the exact impact of the bug on a particular user can't be predicted. If you plan to buy a Logitech webcam, consider getting one of the models not affected by the bug. More information about the issue, including possible workarounds, are available on the QuickCam Team website.

2 Starting at version 2.6.22, the Linux kernel includes a USB audio bug fix which triggers a (possibly identical to the above) bug in first and second generation Logitech webcams. See the Linux UVC wiki for a workaround.

http://www.ideasonboard.org/uvc/#devices

Does the camera work with the following command (maybe change resolution to suit)?

mplayer tv:// -tv driver=v4l2:width=640:height=480:device=/dev/video0 -fps 5

“ID 046d:08da Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Messanger”

The command you gave is still working...

BTW, why is changing the cursor theme inside Skype windows?
The default pointer is Oxygen Zion, but moving it inside/over the Skype window(s) and taskbar icon it turns to KDE Classic theme. Moving out of Skype, it returns to the default.
OTOH, restarting the computer Skype is loosing  the audio-video configurations. ???
Hmmm...

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::.

...Well... still no video...

About thw laptop:
Was thinking if it might be a hardware fault.
I tried with Mageia and Sabayon. Both worked fine with my graphic card.
As I said, it's just a two years old machine, so I think it must be a driver support. In the 32 bit version too.
I don't want other OS in my machines... :(
Please... :'(

Should I open a separate topic?

Oh dear, I've had the same problem last night when I updated my 32bit install, long day at work so I haven't had time to look at it yet.

At least I can swap drives and use the 64bit RC1, which I *won't* be upgrading to fglrx9, just yet ;)

In the mean time I can run the alternative Intel MHD graphics on my Thinkpad.

To get the previous drivers back when you are hit in console after the update (for 64 bit)

Login as root and start XFdrake.
Find the free ati xorg driver and select it.
Hopefully after reboot or run startx you can login into the desktop.

Download these 3 rpm files.

http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2011/RPMS.x86_64/dkms-fglrx-8.961-1pclos2012.x86_64.rpm

http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2011/RPMS.x86_64/fglrx-control-center-8.961-1pclos2012.x86_64.rpm

http://mirror.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/mirror/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/pclinuxos/2011/RPMS.x86_64/x11-driver-video-fglrx-8.961-1pclos2012.x86_64.rpm

Start synaptic and remove the updated fglrx  packages.

Start konsole and  su to root.
Go to the download folder where the 3 rpms are

Type then  rpm -Uvh *.rpm
If it's correct the rpms gonna be installed.

Maybe needed: reboot your system.
Select your used driver with PCC  (hardware -> configure videocard)

After a reboot hopefully it ok then.

I assumed that AMD had dropped support for some more older cards, is that not the case? (saying hopeful prayer)

The new fglrx seems to be working great for me. I've been anxiously awaiting it's deployment. Now I am finally rid of that annoying "AMD Unsupported Hardware" watermark covering my clock.

Yes, but they are still supporting the older driver for now. It just has to be packaged differently, with correct hardware detection, etc. It's a little bit over my current skill level, but I'll get it figured out, with some help. ;)

Ok, :-) and when you figure that out tell the rest of us how to do it also, we would appreciate that :-)

Figured I'd find out what all the hoopla was about.  So I burned a DVD and tried it out.  Very impressive aside from the fact that as soon as it completed boot up from the livedvd it reported a kde problem.  I forget what it was and I haven't tried it again so I don't know what that was about.

But I wanted to report that it made using my dual monitors a breeze by seeing both.  All I had to do is tell it which one was where and all was good.  I especially liked the fact that it comes with just about all of the programs I use including VirtualBox.  That's great news as it will make setting up especially easy.

Now I just have to get the necessary time to install.  I have to reinstall anyway because I have now found out that my ssd is not properly configured and I'm not only not getting all of the performance it is capable of, but it may cause damage in time.

Just thought you'd like to know.  You guys have done a great job.  :D
