hey still ocasionally happens to my pc the following:

sometimes while kde is loading, all of a sudden I got a toal balck scrren, that leaves me only with the kde arrow.

I got the same problem since the test3 64 bit iso. But it happens every now and then...

Maybe it happens by one of the KWin Effects settings.
It never happened on my installs (32 and 64 bit).
Could be Plasma is crashing?

I see in the 64 bit version is available only Skype Static. While in the 32 bit I had problems with the sound in Static, in the 64 bit I have problems with the video. I have two webcams (Microsoft and Logitech). It is recognized only the Logitech, but no video. As audio input(microphone) I see the two listed.
In the 32 bit I used Skype, not Skype Static, becase it is working very well.

Could it be packed for 64 bit too?
Maybe it'll work as well as in the 32 bit... :)
Thanks

64 bit RC1, Skype Static, with Logitech QuickCam Pro 9000. Sound and video both working fine.

( Sorry about the back lights. ;D )

What camera models do you have, and what drivers do they use? Also CPU, RAM, and graphic card used on your machine.

Have you tried disconnecting the camera's USB cable from the computer, then reconnecting it, with the system running? I also had no video at first, and the disconnect/reconnect was all that was needed to get it working in Skype. I also tried it with other vid-cam applications, which also couldn't find the camera before the disconnect/reconnect, so it may be more the capture of the device by the system, rather than a Skype specific problem.

Further to my previous post:

DeVeDe is now installing/working fine.

Kdenlive/mlt also now appears to working again, I've just rendered my test project in 32 minutes, a vast improvement on the 32bit's 51 minutes.

Getting better all the time.

Can we have, or is there already, a dummies guide to installing over the top of a 32bit installation while retaining /home and settings?

Thanks to all the testers/packagers, I wish I was smart enough to help.  :-[

I had them always turned off, to save battery power but kernel 3.2 still drains it in 30 minutes!!! Thiug I wisely used my battery :/

Still with no effect it sometimes occurred :(

"Can we have, or is there already, a dummies guide to installing over the top of a 32bit installation while retaining /home and settings?"

not a guide but some ideas

it depends on what you want to save from your home folder, if it is config files, personal files or entire folders of mails and similar stuff

i find easier to copy the contents of your home folder to another place(external hard disk or similar device), wipe hard disk, install and then copy files back to new home folder on the new os

if any folder or file permission problem happens, you can find help here to fix that

another option is install it over the 32 bit version if the home folder is a separated partition, not deleting or formating it but using the other partitions for the new os, system should leave home untouched and will be used on the next boot

if you don't have a separated home folder, then the first option is the only option i think

Hi uT6,

I have a 100GB Win7 partition, a 12GB "/" - 4GB Swap - and the rest of the 500GB is "/home"

I assumed that installing over the top of "/" wouldn't give me any problems, but it's worth asking, there may be traps I hadn't thought of, just waiting there for me :D

Thanks

I'm using the 64 bit rc and just saw that the "man" package isn't included in the default install. Is that a decision or an oversight? Apart from that: very impressive, looks good, is snappy and all the packages I expect are in the repos. I'm very happy to see that this journey appears to be approaching its end!

Guys, I know you work hard for the completion of the 64bit version...
But... I would like you to consider one small app in the next bunch of processed packages: easymp3gain.
It's a GUI for mp3gain, a program for normalizing the volume of mp3 files.
I'm using it a lot in 32bit and I'm missing it on 64bit...

Thanks in advance. No rush, of course :)

The 64 bit repository is not fully populated yet.
A lot of packages needs still to be ported to 64 bit or fixed.
Some packages refuses to run on 64 bit or are 32 bit only.

For "man" you can use also the online version at: http://www.linuxmanpages.com/

if it can be ported, easymp3gain will but remember that we are still at rc1 status, couple months of testing and packaging is required

It hasn't even been discussed as yet. I'm a big fan of using the man pages for quick reference, so noticed that myself. I installed it from the repo, so have it now, but think it should be included in the official release too. Thanks for reminding me, as I forgot to mention it at the time.
