Installed the 64bit version on my laptop (HP DV7 1150ED) on a spare partition. Added a stanza to grub and adjusted fstab. Using the same home partition and user id as for the 32 bit version. Boot went fine. Downloaded a few more packages.

Missing packages:
Nevernote
Kompozer (a nice to have)

Failures:
Skype simply aborts after log on.
Stellarium (we know)

Wifi works.  GoogleEarth is looking ok.

Better than 32bit:
- Bluetooth icon loads on boot.
- Gramps output to PDF works better than in 32 bit version
- Can install lomanager via option menu; the root is recognised when password screen appears. In 32 bit version I run have to run lomanager as root from konsole.

Performance? At least as good as 32bit version.

Good job. Congratulations.

interesting error on your 32 bit lomanager, never had something like that, sounds like a permission issue with your user

i just noticed a couple of problems but im not sure if related to 64 bit version or to kde4 itself

i don't have a ksplash anymore, i set one but i can't see it, nothing important but not sure if it was happening on 32 bit too, can't remember

i have two taskbar panels, one for some icons and the system tray and another for other icons and the smooth task

sometimes the one with the system tray overlaps the other taskbar panel for a few pixels, even under locked widgets

none are something serious but a bit annoying for those of us who put attention on non important details

I just remembered I get this error at boot-up.

This is due to a bug in libalsa2 which causes this abort when kmix starts.
Fixed in libalsa2-1.0.25-3 dropboxed for 32/64

I don't see it on startup, but it still pops up from time to time. I thought it was likely due to my using lxde on a kde install. I'm always glad when a plan comes together! (Bad A-team reference ;))

I used kmix --nocrashhandler to get rid of it.

Hi All,

Came across an interesting issue when trying to install PCLinuxOS from the live CD.

0) LiveCD boots fine, desktop is displayed.
1) Clicked/double clicked on "Install PCLinux OS" Icon.
2) Install wizard screen pops up.
3) Clicked Next/OK.
4) Install wizard screen disappears and nothing ensues.
5) Waited for 10 minutes to make certain something was not going on.

Easily reproducible on my system.
Aside from burning a new CD or trying a USB stick install ( Unetbootin ),  does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks all.

Solved that one,  the updated Sysconfig (Unetbootin) from some kind PCLOS user fixed the install icon issue.

Installed 64bit RC1 on a test external drive hooked to my Sony Viao laptop a couple of weeks ago.  Everything I use worked out-the-box except Google-Earth and Stellarium.

Stellarium was broken on 32bit (known issue) and a download of GoogleEarthLinux.bin had Google Earth up and running.  Then I let my wife loose on it...  After two weeks hard testing, nothing's broken so let's install it onto the Sony Viao internal drive   :o

After installing onto the Viao internal drive:
Stellarium still broken  :(
But Google Earth is working from the repos  :)

System noticeably faster on some activities (example: Synaptic loads/runs significantly faster), and the install appears rock stable.

Happy days   :D

Hi,

Thanks for all the great work Pinoc and others! The 64bit version works just great on my desktop and laptop. It is really quick.

I am having trouble installing the PlayOnLinux package. I get the message from synaptic:

 PlayOnLinux:
Depends: libx11_6  but it is not installable

I can see that libx64x11_6 is installed. I assume this is the 64 bit version of the library.

regards,

Bruce
