it is a rc1, i would skip dvds, it is easier to use the iso on a live usb, just use the tool to create it

Happy Birthday Texstar!
Great timing, I also have been running test 5 for some time now and with no problems.  I love it.
Will be installing RC1 asap.
Thanks to all, who took part.

Successful d/l with Firefox - downthemall.
Live session loaded fine.
Detected Nvidia 8100 for fine desktop. Had been running nouveau jn 32bit. Niiice.
Wireless network detected but couldn't get wireless to connect.
I will play some more with that & report back.
Hesitate to install til I can get wireless up & running.
Overall looks fine.....very fine.
Netapplet disappears from the taskbar after an unsuccessful connect attempt.
I just remembered I get this error at boot-up.

btw....will a thread be opened for 64bit-rc1 feedback?

PulseAudio Problems

Paprefs does not appear in the menu.

Solution ..........  change the "Categories" line of the .desktop file to those in PulseAudio Volume Control

***

Paprefs does not work properly when launched .........  options are greyed out.

Solution ........... a link is created (/usr/lib64/pulse-0.9) and is linked to /usr/lib64/pulse-o.9.23 (which is empty); it should be linked to pulse-3.0
Else the package that creates it could be changed to use pulse-3.0 without a link?

Followup to previous entries here:
I installed pclos64 to my "main" machine--not the one I normally run Linux on. It installed, and sort of works. I can't get it to print, at the moment.(Network
Epson WP-4530.  I installed it with the downloaded ppd file from Epson, since the pclos database is not up to date.)
There are things missing, and no easy way to get them: Adobe Reader--try and get it from Adobe, but then lots of dependencies.  Same with LightScribe.
Had the same issue with the screen "wallpaper"--after reboot, it disappeared, and came up in that gray sky with curves. That didn't happen with the
testing version I had on there before.

For what it's worth, I downloaded Mint 64 kde and installed it on the machine that completely hung on pclos 64. (Linux1). It's working--I'm using it now. I don't
like it as well.  It's difficult to find things without the handy PC menu that pclos uses. I haven't yet looked for the progs that I couldn't install on pclos. Also,
I think (not sure) it uses deb instead of rpm, so I don't know how to use that. (I've used rpm systems almost all my Linux life!) And there's no problem with the
NVidia card, which both 32 and 64 bit pclos have.

I will monitor this forum and see if there are any breakthrus that might let me use pclos 64 on this machine.

Did just a check on the livecd and see there's a faulty/broken nvidia 173 (173.14.36-1.pclos2013) package on the livecd.
A workaround  is to use the nouveau driver when this is fixed.
All users with a Geforce FX 5xxx card gonna meet this issue.

How to:

Start konsole/terminal

Root to su
su-> password -> enter

then type: XFdrake
search for a xorg driver
you have to select: nouveau

then reboot your system

Even with the graphics messed up, did you try to reconfigure the graphic card? If not, do so. When it says to reboot, just log out and back in again. This will restart the X server with the corrected driver.

I did it a try in live mode on my laptop.
HP Pavilion dv7 17"
Intel i5 CPU 480M 2,67 GHz 4 GB RAM DDR3
ATI HD Graphics 1 GB (6650 or so, not remember exactly and don't know what to open in W7 to find out...  :-\)
700 GB HDD

1. Don't boot with my 1600x900 resolution.
    It can be fixed afterwards.
2. Needed a couple of tries for wifi connection.
I had to connect, refresh, re-configure and then click on Connect button again (in an other live session click twice...)
3. Network tray icon disappeared.

Excepting these issues it seems all is working good in my live test.
I have to purchase another HDD to replace the original one to perform the installation.

Is it possible that the problem with the nVidia driver is the cause of not being able to open any programs?  Ones I could see in the PCMenu,
or ones I had moved to the desktop as icons/widgets?  I still have room on the drive to try and install pclos64 again, if there's a hope of making it work.

Well, good news re. my failed wireless connection.
I deleted & recreated the wireless connection, with no success.
My usual config is auto assign IP & manual DNS, so I tried manual IP & manual DNS & voila!
I'm posting via RC1.  ;D
I guess there's some dhcp issue there.
So..........I'll install & explore. yippee!
Oh, netapplet still misbehaves for me.

After my above post I ran RC1 on my wife's old Acer 5050 laptop.
It had a non-functioning wireless & I had nearly given up on it.
But lo & behold ------ here I am posting from the old 5050!!!!!
This is a fine moment.  ;D

Live DVD works on the 3 boxes, I tried it on with just one problem.  My Logitech MX5500 mouse/keyboard does not work. :(
It uses a Bluetooth USB stick.  I had been running test 05, on all 3 computers, with no problems, for some time now.
I installed the new KDE RC1 to a spare drive, giving it the whole drive and per install info from live disc.  The live DVD worked with my BT mouse/keyboard just to the grub menu. (Tried both live & copy to RAM)  After that, I had to use a USB mouse & keyboard, to finish the install.  All went fine, till reboot, got that same demon screen as stated by several others.  My video worked fine though.
This Computer:  Intel DG35EC M.B., Intel Q6700 @2.66 CPU, 8GB Crucial DDR2 pc2 5300 & ATI/AMD Radeon HD6870 1GB video.
After rebooting, the MX5500 BT mouse/keyboard, still did not work.  I compared the info for mouse & keyboard given in the control center, with my working test 05 install on a different hard drive, but same computer. (This box had NO internal hard drive, so changing is simple & complete)
The info I refer to is:
Mouse: Logitech BT Mini-Receiver
Connection: Bus: USB
Bus PCI#: 6
PCI Device#: 5
Vendor ID: 0x046d
Device ID 0xc71c
Features Emulated Wheel: NO
Misc Vendor Logitech
Description:  Logitech BT Mini-Receiver
Media Class: Human Interface Device|Boot interface subclass|Mouse
Module: USBHID

Keyboard BT Mini-Receiver
Vendor: Logitech
Description: Logitech BT Mini-Receiver
Media Class: Human Interface Device|Boot interface subclass|Keyboard
Connection: Bus USB
Bus PCI#:6
PCI Device#:4
Vendor ID:0x046d
Device ID:0xc71b
Misc Module: USBHID

Note: I had not used this pc for a few weeks, as I had the flew.  The LAST  :-[ thing I did (sory...) was to check for updates to that test 05 install.  I got files not found, so I switched repo's to the last one in the list. ( like I did with my laptop before)  Only this time it took about an hour to download and had over 200 changes.  No errors were reported and my mouse and keyboard still worked until I did an other reboot.  You guessed it!  The test 05 no longer works with the Logitech BT mouse/keyboard either.
So, my problem may have occurred a while before the release of KDE RC1.  Sorry I didn't know or post earlier.  Also, could not post in the testing area.
Thanks for reading and any possible help, Dan (I really like that mouse & keyboard) :(

Well, I did the install on my wifee's old acer 5050 laptop.
Soooo smooth.
I usually do the custom partitioning but I decided to try the use current settings function.
Correctly detected / & /home and auto selected to format / --nothing for /home. cool.
Install was very quick. I kept the same user as my old install & was greeted by my complete desktop.
My winxp vbox ran on the first click.

Note: wireless connected. did screen cap with ksnapshot. cropped with gewnview

Now I'll install on my daily work machine.  ;D
