It's a foolish thing, but I don't know how to handle it since I don't know how to work in text mode... ???
So, please don't laugh!...

Upgraded to KDE 4.10, typed in terminal init 6 to reboot.
After reboot it went in text mode

PCLinuxOS release...
Kernel.....
localhost login:_

Wat should I type there??? ???
Mmmghhhh!!!...
I tried "root", password... nothing.

The same thing in my 32 bit install after upgrading to (testing) kernel 3.4.

Thanks

Login using your credentials and then try startx

Sorry, but I'm afraid not understand what means "credentials"... :(

I tried root->password
(root@localhost ^)#_startx

Is shows a large list ended with
xinit: giving up
xinit: unable to connect to X server: Connection refused
xinit: server error

Credentials are your username and password.
You may have to reconfigure your video card.
As root type XFdrake and select a VESA driver for your card.
Reboot.
This should allow you to login and re-configure your video card from PCC.

yesterday updated to kde 4.10 and all went ok, fine functioning too  ;D Maybe today gotta try to disconnect and reconnetc wi fi via netapp icon and see what happens ;)

OK , i disconnected and reconnect wi fi via draknetcenter invoked by netapp icon and operation was succesful, but as soon as i disconnected netapp icon disappeare, and when an connected again it did not show anymore  :'(

besides, seems that wi fi module is somewhat "discriminating" in fact sometimes it detects a x number of  wi fi connection and sometimes a y number (sometimes a few of them, sometimes more than a few..)  ??? ???

screenshots:

few:

a nice hanful:

moreover as soon as i'm typing i'm not able to open recycle bin on the desktop! :O That's happens every now and then..

well...I apologize for my incompetence but if you tell me which .log files I may post here, I'll do some pastebin work! ;D ;)

wow first time i can enjoy the rc in a virtual machine (vmware player much better than virtual box on my system) only the installation took a while.

but on thing is very strange. when i watch a youtube video on my host system 32bit lxde than the processor turns up to at least 25% usage mostly more but if i watch the video in the vm (now vmware player firefox and the flashplugin are working my overall cpu usage is < 25%  ???  ???
The full life is a big mess

PS:
I'm German. Sorry because of possible mistakes in my written messages xD

Have you re-configured your video card through PCC?
Anyway, I think it would be better to create a new topic for your issues.
You will get more attention and more members should be able to help you ;)

Yes, agmg, I re-configured the video card: I tried some options effered there, but nothing happened.
Anyway, I opened another thread. Maybe it helps. If not, I'll give up; it seems my laptop don't like PCLOS... or vice-versa... :)  :(

Downloaded the 64 bit RC1.  Verified the Md5sum. Clean install to a hard drive.  Ran Synaptic and got this message-

While installing package dkms-nvidia173-173.14.36-2pclos2013:

file: File 5.13 supports only version 10 magic files. `/usr/share/misc/magic.mgc' is version 8

There was a recent update to the "file" package.
It looks like either that has not worked on your install or, if the update to "file" is occurring in the same update batch, there is a weird situation with transaction ordering in RPM.

Check the situation as it stands now by opening a terminal and running:

Code: [Select]
[terry@localhost ~]$ file /usr/share/misc/magic.mgc
/usr/share/misc/magic.mgc: magic binary file for file(1) cmd (version 10) (little endian)

Check that the output is as shown above.
If it is, then I suggest you try a re-install of dkms-nvidia173

Terry.

This is the terminal output from your inquiry.
[root@localhost hughc]# file /usr/share/misc/magic.mgc
/usr/share/misc/magic.mgc: magic binary file for file(1) cmd (version 10) (little endian)
[root@localhost hughc]#

Is that OK? It doesn't match your display
On installing the dkms-nvidia173 this is the output -

While preparing for installation:

dkms-nvidia173-173.14.36-2pclos2013

Error! DKMS tree already contains: nvidia173-173.14.36-2pclos2013
You cannot add the same module/version combo more than once.

I updated to kde-4.10.1. Smooth no probs evident.
I reported last week about qbittorrent crashes with segfaults.
After a 3/18 update containing qt4 updates, QBT seems healthy again.  :)
