Vehicle accident
« on: February 01, 2013, 03:20:28 PM »
I have been a little pre-occupied over the past three days. A younger brother of mine was involved in a head on collision not too far from here on Wednesday afternoon. He is currently in an induced coma in the local hospital with critical injuries.

We hope that they can start to rouse him Sunday to determine if there has been any substantial head damage. Those of you in Canada will appreciate the fact that, here in Kiwiland, the taxpayer picks up the tab for all of this hospitalization. Here, we have such a thing as the Accident Compensation Commission. They pay for the ambulance, hospitalization, and, even loss of income while injured. But, the existence of the ACC means that there is no litigation possible. It is based on "no fault" so the courts don't get involved.

We just hope and pray that my brother will make a full recovery.

As you may have noticed on another thread - today is my birthday. Well, this evening, when I went to visit my brother in hospital, I found that he had his eyes open; was able to follow movement around the room with his unpatched eye; and nod in answer to a question.

Told him that was my best possible birthday present. The doctors and nurses were quite excited about the progress.

Thank you all for your kind thoughts and wishes.
