HP 5520 All-in-one not showing up as a scanner
« on: February 07, 2013, 09:59:19 AM »
Recently purchased an HP 5520printer/scanner/copier and installed it on PCLinuxOS (fully updated as of yesterday). The printer is working well with the PLOS CUPS configuration tool. Printing is working, but the scanner is not being recognized by XSANE. Unable to configure the scanner manually. Suggestions happily accepted. (Scanner working fine from Win7, using HP-delivered driver.)

According to the HP page this is fully supported in PCLOS since 2007 release ....

So your results are unexpected.

How have you it connected?  USB?

The 5520 is setup wirelessly since I have two PCLinuxOS devices using it. Printing works well from both, as does the scanner from one of them that dual-boots Win7 (as installed when purchased).

Firewall setting? try turning it off in the PC if on presently

AFAIK, your HP supports webscan [EWS]

Quote
Get the printer IP address
In order to access the EWS, you will need to know the IP address assigned to your printer on your network. You can find your printer's IP address in multiple ways, though options vary by printer.

Press the Wireless button on the printer control panel to view the network settings.
Access the Network menu on the printer control panel.
Print a network configuration page or wireless network test page.

In your web browser type the IP address given on the test page.....

Thanks to you guys for the responses. Yes, the libsane-hpaio package is installed on both computers and the firewall is off on both.
Additional datapoint, the scanner is working from one of them  (the old  Asus 1000HD, it finds both wireless printers  [ HP5520 and HP7520 (wife's machine)]on the network), but neither wireless printer scanner is found by xsane 0.998 on the HP I7laptop that is my main computer.
The problem appears to be limited to the I7 machine.
The printer reports the IP address as 192.168.1.6.

Hi, I came to your thread looking for answers to my own scanner problems, alas they are unrelated I think.

However, during my hours of frustration I came across this........

the first lines of  etc/sane.d/dll.conf

# enable the next line if you want to allow access through the network:
net

you may want to check this??

For coffeetime and gor-dee;
I finally got to check your suggestions.
- EWS scanning is working from both machines
- The first lines of the etc/sane.d/dll.conf are the way you suggest.
I'd still like to get the scanner working from xsane on the the I7, but I am grateful for a working alternative that doesn't involve rebooting to Win7.
Thanks!
Alan
