problems with booting after refreshing repos [SOLVED]
« on: February 01, 2013, 08:11:06 AM »
Hi there!

I changed the repos mirror, as it was written on the pclos page. today i wanted to start pclos, but there are no graphics. nothing. only some freaky something with login to localhost. after login, there is a console. when i wrote "startx" to it, it gives me this:

xauth: file /home/as/.serverauth.3978 does not exist

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
           and start again.

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support
           at http://pclinuxos.com
for help.

xinit: connection to X server lost

so i am a total lama. what i have to do now for make it running?
please help.
P.S.: my "iron" is a Toshiba NB 500 netbook.

okay i solved it. don´t ask how. :)
found something like this: http://forum.another distro-rs.org/Thread-reseno-xinit-connection-to-x-server-lost
i don´t understand very well what is there while it is not my native language, but in console i wrote this:
su
apt-get install --reinstall kdm

and voila! it works!
now i only have a problem with my desktop. it is empty. and have no sound and can not open alsamixer. and FN+F3 and FN+F4 (sound volume) doesn´t work, too.

but the BOOTING is SOLVED!

Use Synaptic and do a full upgrade after Reloading

i did full upgrade and...nothing happened.
synaptic allways srites me this:
while installing package kde4-config-4.9.5-1pclos2013:
gtk-update-icon-cache: No theme index file.

if i want to run alsamixer it writes me:
alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: Connection refused

That is not a problem, just a notice for the admin.

IMO you should mark the heading of this thread as [SOLVED] and start a new thread for your audio problem if you cannot find a solution in a previous thread on this forum.

1. Kde4-configxxxx may work only for new user accounts. So create a new user and check if it is still empty.

2. You may still be missing some packages. Check Synaptic history for uninstalled packages.

3. At last, try installing task-kde and see what is missing.
Packaging well will cure headaches of many :) But learning to package will cause headaches in many :(
