did the the cartridge broke?  this is a rather old picture but i don't see points to what could have happened here

that dust is so dangerous, i feel sorry for the person who has to clean it

I heard somewhere that a spark could set off an explosion in the toner dust.

seems like almost any fine dust particulate can catch fire.  years ago i read about a fire at a custard powder factory.  CUSTARD!?  i had a hard time believing that, but it's apparently all to do with physics.

basically everything that could be burned, when converted into fine dust in the right saturation will make boom!

sugar, milk in powder, rice between others can be dangerous

not sure if toner can catch fire, if there is something in it that could be burned will be dangerous

i don't think it can, since most printers put that toner under 200 °C to make it stay on the paper so sounds less possible to me

Powdered coffee creamer burns really well. It makes a really bright flash.  For toner I am not really sure, as toner is carbon encapsulated in plastic.

Depends on the ignition point.  Quick search for how hot a match flame might be...~600C ... so, the 200 could well be within safety limits.

Does anyone remember the experiment with a canister, long rubber tube, 1/2 cup baking flour, and a candle?

Use a metal canister with a friction fit lid, and do the experiment outdoors.

Poke a hole in the side of the canister toward the base, just large enough to fit the tube snugly, and insert the tube so it points downward. Place the flour in the canister, then the candle. Light the candle, press the lid in place, and blow hard through the tube.

When done right you get a nice flour dust explosion that can blow the lid up 100 feet or more, hence the need to do this outdoors.
