(SOLVED)samba configuration problems
« on: January 31, 2013, 09:33:48 PM »
i was trying to open some files on my desktop running xp and dolphin did it very well, no problems at all

then i tried to do the same from my smartphone and it was a good experience too

so i decided to make a samba shared form a folder in my netbook running pclinux fully updated

i tried in pcc and created a user and the folder, allowed all permissions and tried to see it, it shows as the local ip on my smartphone and it shows two folders but both empty

the netbook can see the shares too but empty folders as the smartphone

the smartphone suggest problems with firewall so i checked it and settings are ok allowing samba

i tried to run swat samba configuration tool but it won't open when called from the web browser(opera or firefox)

am i doing things wrong?

found the solution to the two questions

swat is a service but it was disabled in configure your computer/system/manage system services/swat, once i did that swat could be accessed and asked root user and password, nice simple interface but i didn't used it much

the samba share wasn't working because i wasn't on the same workgroup, once i found and ran the wizard in configure your computer/network sharing/share drives smb/samba server/configure to set the workgroup and restarted the smb service i could access the share from my smartphone without problems

i did all this under pclinux kde 64 bit rc1

thanks for reading
