Looking to share some files with the general public? Whether those files are of the legal or illegal kind, a website has cropped up to index files on Kim Dotcom's brand new cloud-storage site. Mega.co.nz, meet Mega-search.me.
The mega-search.me page I got appears to be originally Italian, but there are lots of translations available. The article above says French. ... not that it matters ...
I tried it out ..... selecting Videos from the left panel drop down and then seeking out TV series/video/films by name that I knew would be copyright infringing if available.
I tested about 10 files, and in each case the file was gone ....... presumably taken down as infringing.
My initial reaction is two-fold ..... this site gives a public place for people to find content that is publicly shared from Mega. As such it is a very convenient service, and could be extremely useful.
The second thing that struck me is that this site highlights shared content and so makes it rather easy for just that content to be checked for infringement, and taken down if found so.
This should mean that Mega can publicly show that proven infringing content is quickly removed in case of any legal actions in the future.
It looks to me as if Mega is determined that no infringing content should be made publicly available from their servers.
A good thing IMO. That should ensure the longterm viability of the service.
It would not surprise me to find that the search site was 'supported' by Mega ....
