Hidden files showing in open/save etc

Hi

Recently when opening, saving, downloading files the pop up window shows all my hidden folders and files. I have searched and see I can right click in the window and un-tick, but that doesn't keep it for next time. This is on all program's.

If you are using Dolphin go to View > Adjust View Properties and see if Show Hidden Files is enabled - if it is "untick" it.

And enable Use these view properties  as default

Apply > OK

I know this is an old topic, but was wondering if you managed to get this to work.  I have followed the instructions in both Dolphin and Konqueror and had no luck, when I attach files in Thunderbird and firefox (as well as others) I still see the hidden files.

Yo RobPotts, are you saying that when you download a file using we will say firefox and it asks you what name to save it as, in that window (enter name to save file to)? If thats the case, just right click in the window and uncheck the Show Hidden Files box.

What Desktop Environment (and Dolphin) version are you using. Are you fully updated?

Are the hidden files shown when using Dolphin and Konqueror  or only when attaching files in FF & TB?

Do you have any add-ons that may cause it?

Again in  View > Adjust View Properties and make sure Show Hidden Files is not enabled

In the same Adjust View Properties window - in the bottom section enable All Folders

And enable the very bottom option - Use these view properties as default

Press Apply > OK

If the above doesn't work you could try creating a new DE user account to see if the same thing occurs.

A quick way of hiding/showing folders is to add the the option to a Dolphin toolbar - mine is like this



The icon named Hide on the r/h side of the toolbar is the one for quickly enabling/disabling hidden folders (I customised the name to Hide it's "full" name is Show Hidden Files (In Dolphin > Settings > Configure Toolbar and in the left hand "Filter" box just enter hid and it should show it - it's then just a matter of adding it to the Current Actions side )

In T-Bird, there should be a box to tick/untick to Show/Hide hidden files, on the bottom left of the search window that comes up when you select to Attach a file.
