Grub Installation on a cloned (new) disk drive!
« on: January 29, 2013, 04:55:47 AM »
I recently acquired a new disk drive at a really good price. Although there have been no problems with the old one I thought it would be a good idea to migrate my old drive to the new one just to be on the safe side. I used Clonezilla, a free utility available on the internet, which was written in Debian Linux (I believe) and all seemed to go well. My system consists of Windows 8 and Full Monty PCLinuxOS and although they claimed that the boot sector, etc. including the GRUB software migrated over intact , when I boot off the new drive to test it, I get the message "GRUB" and nothing happens after that.
Can somebody please help me with this problem ?

Thank you,

Kent G. Bailey

After you cloned the old drive, did you remove it from the system and connect the cable that went to it to the new drive?

If you did not, your system can get very confused seeing what it thinks is the same drive in two locations.

Do you have a PCLinuxOS liveCD handy?
