First question: when did you last upgrade?
2nd question which mirror are you using?
Have you read http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,87378.0.html?

I upgraded to 2012 some months ago... maybe as early as 1Q 2012.  When I had a problem with LibreOffice the other day and attempted to upgrade, the repository had bumpkiss, so I found the link you provided, which I read and set to ibiblio.

Now boys to be fair, I have been using this OS for at least two years, and have used this forum a few times to fix problems.  So I just opened my Google Wallet and purchased a PASS Server access.... whoopie!!!!

That said, I'm still hoping to find a backdoor to solving my problem without doing a new build!

Thanks

Pete

That's what I feared. To keep your system current and upgradeable you need to run synaptic regularly - weekly or fortnightly is recommended - 60 days is considered the absolute maximum. If it's nearly a year since you last upgraded you have no real chance of regaining a stable system and will need to re-install from the latest ISO. Back up your data, download the latest. Try re-installing without repartitioning or formatting /home if you have it on a separate partition. If all goes well you'll have a working system, change your repo to ibiblio and upgrade apt-sources-list, then select one of the newer mirrors and do a full upgrade. Then re-install your chosen apps.

Yes ....  running Synaptic should work .......  thought of it last night in bed  :(

why did I not think of it yesterday?  :(

Select KDM as the first package to be installed, along with its dependencies.

:)

I actually typed
run synaptic

I have also tried it in safe mode (no difference, but I expected that).

The command to use, as root, in the terminal is

synaptic

It should launch Synaptic full screen.

 :D

Hey guys... thanks to all of you for your help.  I was able to load Synaptic from the CLI.  Then after setting the proper repository, I was able to load KDM, KDE4, and KDELIBS.  A couple of reboots and bada-bing, I'm back in business without doing a complete rebuild.

I'm not locking this thread as I want to send each of you a Thank you... but am missing how to do it!

Thanks again to all!

Pete

Great to see you got it going again.

Could you do the following from Synaptic please and post back the results

Click on Search and fill in the parameters as follows
Search:       4.6.5
Look In:      Version

If the list of installed packages is long take a pic, else just list what is installed.

This is to check if any old packages remain that might be preventing some updates.

Good news, the search came up empty!

Thanks again!

You should get similar results if you search for  4.8.3  .....  I have a couple of 4.8.30 packages in use but none of the older 4.8.3 packages.

Probably worth a check  ;)

:)
Three packages were identified, only one is installed.  KDE-config-legacy, the installed version 4.8.3-5pclos2012 is exactly the sames as the latest version.

The other two (un installed packages) db4.8-javadoc and kde4-config.
