Re: KDE 4.9.5 update - removals issues

I may have misunderstood your post.  I have already updated, excluding the problem packages.

The list of what has to be removed when removing cryptsetup had to be typed out; it includes many gnome-related packages.  I have pasted the list on pastebin: cryptsetup.

If you meant something else, would you please clarify and I will mark all updates on another PCL installation and type out what has to be removed.  You cannot select and copy the list; you have to type it out.

I have some dependency issues with kde-multimedia-kmix. When I try to resolve those issues and mark kde-multimedia-kmix for install k3b, kaudiocreator, kde-multimedia-core (which is according to another thread no longer used) and the mentioned soundkonverter get removed.

Shall I wait with the upgrade until the issues are settled or proceed and leave kde-multimedia-kmix unchanged, since I need at least k3b.

any advise would be appreciated.

Try to remove it!  A long list of packages has to be removed as well.

Don't try to remove it.  It is required.!  The 1.6.0 update can't be applied because one of it's dependencies is missing and so it will be "kept back" by Synaptic/apt until this is resolved.  It just means you stay on 1.3.1 until the repo is corrected.

Updated 2 systems with no problems

Checked

System Settings

Desktop Search/File Indexing - (Nepomuk/Strigi) - fine

Akonadi Resources Configuration - fine

Desktop Effects - Cube / Wobbly / Flip  etc - fine

Kontact - akregator / kaddressbook / kjots / kmail / korganizer - fine

Kate and KWrite - fine

Dolphin - fine

Juk - fine

gwenview - fine

Add Widgets - Download New Widgets - fine

ksnapshot - fine

The only things I had to reset were the

KDE Texstar KDM login screen which  I reset back to my MIB Ossigeno Ultimate KDM 4.0 theme

Fonts - had changed to Sans Serif - reset back to Ubuntu

Many thanks to the "backroom team"

Even though this seems to be a "pain free" update I would still suggest that users backup important application settings/data etc

I am seeing some odd messages when attempting to update from PASS.

1.  cryptsetup:  Depends: libcryptsetup.so.4  but it is not installable

2.  When I mark task-kde4-minimal Synaptic wants to remove kde4-config and upgrade kde4-config-legacy.

3.  When I mark kde-multimedia-kmix Synaptic wants to remove kdemultimedia-core and task-kde4-minimal.

I have therefore marked all updates except the following:

cryptsetup
pulseaudio packages (a separate issue)
task-kde4-minimal
kde-multimedia-kmix

Shall I proceed with a partial update?

I have rebuilt all 3 kde4-config versions to 4.9.5 and new task-kde4 (minimal and normal, release 3) to use the kde4-config currently installed on the system and not imposing any of the 3 kde4-configs. This is good news for KDE users. Users on a non-KDE system and wanting to add KDE to it, will get a separate message to manually select kde4-config after adding the KDE-desktop.

Please remember that you can change to any of the 3 kde-configs without impacting your current user accounts. Any new kde4-config is only applied to any new user setup on the system after you installed the different kde4-config.

Brilliant Upgrade, thanks for the hard work put in to make it so.

I've basically looked over my settings and all is well.

Tried my minimal destop effects, Alt+Shift+F12, no hiccups.

Icons in left of Panel, Konsole, Synaptic, Configure your Computer, and Configure your Desktop, are smaller than before. Shall look into that when have a moment.

Thankyou for what seems a painless KDE update. Small steps are obviously easier on everyone all round.  ;)

Worked well on 32-bit. Nothing to report.

Waiting to test on 64 which will be a bigger leap.

Trying to do this update but when I mark all updates I get this message:

E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.

Checking through the list of updates I notice that kde-multimedia-kmix is isn't highlighted but does have a red mark against it. All other packages are marked for update.

If I click "Apply" I get this message:

"Could not apply changes!
 Fix broken packages first"

How do I proceed?

[Edit]
Tried to fix broken packages and get this message:

"E: Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by held packages.
E: Unable to correct dependencies
