KDE 4.9.5 update - removals issues
« Reply #16 on: January 27, 2013, 04:03:43 PM »
I am seeing some odd messages when attempting to update from PASS.

1.  cryptsetup:  Depends: libcryptsetup.so.4  but it is not installable

2.  When I mark task-kde4-minimal Synaptic wants to remove kde4-config and upgrade kde4-config-legacy.

3.  When I mark kde-multimedia-kmix Synaptic wants to remove kdemultimedia-core and task-kde4-minimal.

I have therefore marked all updates except the following:

cryptsetup
pulseaudio packages (a separate issue)
task-kde4-minimal
kde-multimedia-kmix

Shall I proceed with a partial update?

kdemultimedia-core is no longer needed and can be removed. If you want kde4-config then don't install task-kde4-minimal.

Thanks.  What is the difference between the two kde configs?  Is there an advantage in getting kde4-config-legacy?

In any case to get kde4-config-legacy I have to install task-kde4-minimal BUT I can't mark both task-kde4-minimal and kde-multimedia-kmix because the latter requires the former to be removed.  Perhaps I should update task-kde4-minimal first and update kde-multimedia-kmix separately and subsequently?

Task packages can be removed after they are used (I guess).

I think you would only need the libqt4-devel, obviously this must be moved out of testing as it is part of the new QT.

kde4-config and kde4-config-legacy sets the KDE4 desktop to default settings
Can be used when your KDE desktop is fully broken.

kde4-config is default setting from KDE or what's configured in /etc/skel
kde4-config-legacy is the default setting aka Texstars config.

Thanks.  If I remove task-kde4-minimal, I presumably will be unable to reinstall it.  I suppose it doesn't matter when you have kde packages already installed.

My preference is to leave my desktop alone so I'll remove task-kde4-minimal.

Try to remove it!  A long list of packages has to be removed as well.

Try the full update, apply it and see what's updated/removed
See at details.  (don't do the 2nd apply)
Paste and copy the list (on pastebin.com)
