Toshiba C655 with Intel Mobile 4 graphics (GM45) with 1377x768 resolution (laptop release date July 2010)
Sometimes getting a system to do 1366x768 out of the box is tricky - I haven't had this problem for a while now (my present laptop is 1280x800), but I remember this from earlier on... had to make some adjustments to xorg.conf, I think?
All of the following are liveCD tests:
PCLOS 2009.1 KDE boots to desktop and correctly ID's screen resolution
PCLOS 2010.12 KDE boots to desktop and correctly ID's screen resolution
Mageia 2 -KDE will not boot regardless of any workarounds
LM 13 KDE - installs but cannot be rebooted. Must be complete shut down. Reboot from a session hangs and must do hard shutdown ( no workaround yet)
PCLOS 2011, 2012.02, 2012.08 boot but do not find correct resolution. Must go to "monitor and display " in config your comp and select from 1377x768 there.
Yup, this is what I was talking about. PCLinuxOS Control Center does the legwork for you, but the end result is some changes to your xorg.conf file.
Then 2012.08 KDE installs but after the reboot (during install) hangs with kernel panic.

uhci_hcd is a module supporting a series of USB controllers, among which are the intel 82801 family. Toshiba uses different members of this family in a lot of their products, apparently. I'm not sure this info is really relevant after comparing it to my dmesg. (But I did find some annoying errors in my installation with ACPI I'd been wondering about... hmm.)
http://hardware4linux.info/module/uhci_hcd/So... did you receive any error messages related to the video subsystem? It might be helpful, if you can do it, to boot into fail-safe mode, log in to a shell and, from a shell session do:
[yourusername@localhost ~]$ dmesg > C655_dmesg.txt
and then paste the C655_dmesg.txt file you find in your home folder afterward. (Um... this file can get pretty lengthy, but it can tell you a lot about your system - may want to just paste relevant sections of it after you've had a chance to digest it).
I had different video problem a while back with a Tosh Laptop with same Intel mobile 4 chipset. Why the older kernels work on this lappy but not newer. 2010 is not an ancient laptop . Any thoughts on Intel graphics and newer kernels / modules / xservers or did I get another dud?
My machine is a 2005 vintage, but it's still truckin' along with 2012.08, the 3.2.18-pclos2.bfs kernel and all updates (my Broadcomm wifi no longer works, but that's a known issue with this kernel). I don't think age of your machine is a real factor here as much as some possible "hostility" from the kernel?
Toshiba generally makes decent quality gear - I would hesitate to think you had a "dud" so early on. Attempting to boot fail-safe should get you by any video issues, hopefully. If it does boot in fail-safe (there are no guarantees of that) and you still get video that looks unreadable, use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get to a shell prompt. Ctrl-Alt-F8 should bring you back to the X session. (If I'm recalling correctly, fail-safe attempts to boot to a minimal twm X session... it's been a while.)
I'm hoping to help you get the ball rolling on this one, and also hoping other, more expert PCLinuxOS folks get involved to help us work the problem. It may be something as serious as moving back to a 2.6.x kernel post-install, I don't know.
Let's see what we've got, and go from there.
