All hot key/shorcut combinations can be found where?
« on: January 24, 2013, 03:28:14 AM »
Is there a way of finding out all hotkey/shortcut combinations used in PCLinuxOS?  I have a very vague memory that I came across a list long time ago.

Any hints most welcome  :)

This is very difficult and depends on the desktop environment and used programs

e.g. all hot keys in lxde are stored in ~/.config/openbox/lxde-rc.xml, but if you have a open program the program provides mostly his own short cuts.
The full life is a big mess

Try

Configure your desktop -> shortcuts & gestures -> standard keyboard shortcuts

In addition to rich2005 advice, in the

Config Your Desktop > Common Appearance and Behavior > Shortcuts & Gestures > Global Shortcuts

section, you can use the KDE Component filter to see which KDE app shortcuts are set (or not).

This area also lets users import or export "themes", and gives users the option to Set All Shortcuts to none

The problem is that also non-KDE programs may use shortcuts that are specific to those programs. Sometimes this will lead to conflicts with the KDE ones.

The key combination Ctrl+C is supposed to mean "copy marked text" in KDE (and in many other environments) but you can't use it for that in a terminal even if that terminal is part of KDE, as the shell will interpret it differently. So in Konsole you have to use Ctrl+Shift+C instead.

And when I a few years ago I used Cairo Dock with KDE I had to redefine quite a number of standard KDE shortcuts as Cairo Dock used the same key combinations for quite different purposes.

Thank you all, the combination got me there and I also stumbled on Archie's topic.

You hit the nail on the head, this is my problem, conflicting hotkey definitions.  I was approaching it the wrong way assigning hotkeys within an environment that could not check existing assignments.  Then I started testing my wishes via the global shortcuts etc, that has got me at a guess 60% of the way. The rest will be hard.

I have mentioned before on occasions that I am used to a text editor called EditpaPro, rather complex but it sits just right with me. I discovered this works now well with wine.  So well in fact I have now introduced another called AceText from the same stable. I am trying to get these two's shortcutts to work across the wine boundary to PCLinuxOS.

I am not sure I will be more than 50% successful but I can live with that.  We will see.
