<solved, Thanks! > KDE but not LXDE?
« on: January 23, 2013, 08:39:53 PM »
New guy question.... I installed KDE to try it out, and under "pc/more applications/emulators" I found getvirtualbox. I installed it and got my xp to install.  I then tried (on a different HD, moved cables etc. at this point in my learning!) and installed LXDE to try the same thing. Unfortunately, under "more applications/"  there is no emulators section. I went and searched synaptic for virtualbox, getvirtualbox, and oracle and came up empty. I looked on oracle's site and couldn't find any download for PCLinuxOS.   So now for the "new guy" question..... Is VirtualBox not available for PCLinuxOs LXDE, or am I that much of a "new guy" that I just couldn't find it.  Thanks all for the help.

Larry

ps.  My minimal system could run KDE and XP but very slowly.  I was trying to see if LXDE would work any faster.

In LXDE when I search for "getvirtualbox" I find it with no problems. I don't have it installed as you can see, but it's there.

What repo are you using?

Thanks Crow.... but I followed all of the changes and downloaded/installed all of the updates. When I go back to synaptic and search for virtualbox, getvirtualbox, and oracle. I still come up empty! ??? For virtualbox I get a link to x11-driver-input-vboxmouse  and x11-driver-video-vboxvideo. Getvirtualbox comes back empty. Oracle comes back empty also.  Thanks for taking a look, any other places to look?  Larry

I downloaded the current pclos 2012 today and made the repository changes, reloaded, marked for upgrade and installed all to update to 2013.

The repositories "ticked" automatically after the upgrade are:
ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/linux/distr/pclinuxos
ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/linux/distr/pclinuxos/apt

I searched synaptic again, and all I got were the links to the x11-drivers for mouse and video again.  I took a couple of screenshots using screenie, but am unable to figure out how to imbed them in the post, sorry

Thanks for the patience,
Larry

"Un-Tick" the ones that you have and instead try tis one. > http://ftp.nluug.nl/pub/os/Linux/distr/pclinuxos/pclinuxos/apt/

If it's not there, "add" it and make sure it's the only one with a "check mark". . ;)

Then try a "Reload / Mark All Upgrades / "Mark", in the box / Apply / and then "Apply" again.

THEN search for "getvirtualbox" again. ;)

Thanks Rudge!!  That fixed it.  I don't know why that was so difficult for me but it worked.  Larry
