Google Image Changes
« on: January 23, 2013, 09:21:17 AM »
Anyone notice today that Google changed the way you view something in their image galleries.
Not a big deal but it is different. Guess I am bored today.  ::)

There is a 5th dimension, beyond that which is known to man.It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity, between science& superstition,& it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call PCLINUXOS!

Either I am wrong or the side pane with the "options" is gone. Is that it or did You had something else in mind?

And yes I did noticed You are sitting there with that "what would I mess with today" kinda look on Your face...

Cheers.

Yes the side pane is gone. the image now opens beneath the thumbnail when you click on it.

And yes that sums up my mood today. ::)

When I click on the image it opens the way it did before for me. Maybe my browser / settings block the new way of opening images - I suppose Google is testing / adding something...

Cheers.

It must have been some kind of test because it went back to the old way.

This may provide some info for you Joe It includes links to a Chromium extension and a Firefox Add-on allowing you to right-click an image on the web to search Google with that image.

It shows Four ways to search by image

Drag and drop

Drag and drop an image from the web or your computer into the search box on images.google.com

Upload an image

On images.google.com, click the camera icon, then select “Upload an image.” Select the image you want to use to start your search.

Copy and paste the URL for an image

Found an image on the web you’re curious about? Right-click the image to copy the URL. On images.google.com, click the camera icon, and “Paste image URL”.

Right-click an image on the web

To search by image even faster, download the Chrome extension or the Firefox add-on.

With the extension installed, simply right-click an image on the web to search Google with that image.

thanks for the info. I don't think that addresses the change I had though. The change went from showing the picture as a pop up  and now it appears larger in a grey space between the other pictures.

I have been seeing it for a couple of weeks. At first I thought it was the site the image was on using JS to grab my browser away from Google as I have had some sites do when using Google image search but finally came to the conclusion it was a Google change. Just checked, yep, still doing it.

Feel free to color me slightly nonplussed... ;D
Here It used to be that after clicking on a pic it went to a page with two panes divided vertically into 3/4 on left that was blank and then on the right it had a pic with a link to the page and a link below it with a link to the image. Now in place of the blank left side is the preview (if that's what you want to call it) of the website of where the pic is, with the right side remaining the same as before.

Oddly enough that's the way Ixquick and startpage image search has been doing it all along as far as I know, with the exception that Ixquick/Startpage divides their page horizontally.
Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.
