This seems to be an ongoing problem.

I have been trying to install PCLinux KDE on a virtual machine running on another Linux 64bit distro.  I have tried the 2012.12 and the 2012.08 versions and in both cases the livedisk won't run.  It gets as far as the screen with the blue thermometer and won't go any further.  If I pree "esc" I just get a blank screen with a flashing cursor - no messages.

For the VM settings I am using those recommended by agmg in another thread so I should be giving it enough memory.

PCLinuxOS LXDE installs just fine ???

How much memory do you have on your system and how much of it is dedicated to VirtualBox?

How much memory?
The latest (DVD-size) ISOs require considerably more RAM than the previous versions.

Are you using the pclinuxos-kde-2012.12 ISO directly in the VM or using a DVD burned from that same ISO?

Have you checked whether the downloaded ISO and/or the DVD are good?

In VBox > Settings > System > Motherboard tab do you have the Enable IO APIC ticked? (on mine it is)

Again in Settings  > System - Processor Tab try enabling (or disablng) the PAE?NX option

Depending on the amount of memory you have available. I'm using 1.12GB and 128MB for Video (on some VM's I set it at 256MB when I "cheat" a little)

Thanks guys.

I'm trying to load from a DVD.  The disc will run as LiveCD directly on the machine and has been used to install on another machine so seems OK.  I've also tried the 2012.08 CD (known good) with the same result.

The computer has 4 Gig memory installed and I'm allocating 1024 to the VM.  Our download page suggests memory requirement: 512 MB minimum, 1 GB recommended.

I have both IOAPIC and PAE/NX ticked.  I'll try unticking PAE/NX and report back.

I always use .iso files to run or install PCLinuxOS inside a VirtualBox. It is faster.
I also use 1024MB for the VM but my host is WindowsXP 32bit, not *buntu...

Why don't you try to give 2GB to your virtual machine and see if the extra memory makes any difference?

Now tried  with and without PAE NX and with 2048 memory.  Again no go.

Perhaps it's an issue with VB 4.2.6?

Yes, no problem.

It's curious, I've got Win XP, Ubuntu, and PCLinuxOS LXDE all installed on Virtualbox with no problems.  It's just PCLinuxOS KDE that is giving problems ???

Head scratching here too... :P

Just tried the KDE 2012.12 iso under my VirtualBox 4.2.6 and boots to live session with no issues.

Just reposting my settings for easy reference:

GENERAL

Operating system: Mandriva or Other Linux

SYSTEM

Motherboard
Base Memory: 1024MB
Extended features: Enable IO APIC

Processor
Processors: 2
Extended Features: Enable PAE/NX

Acceleration
Hardware Virtualization: Enable VT-x/AMD-V, Enable Nested Paging

DISPLAY

Video
Video Memory: 128MB
Monitor Count: 1
Extended Features: Enable 3D Acceleration
Remote Display: Disabled.

STORAGE
Normal (VDI), 20GB, Fixed size storage.

AUDIO
Host Audio Driver: Windows DirectSound
Audio Controller: ICH AC97

Maybe you should try with the iso directly without using your dvd drive?
Have you tried enabling/disabling some options?
Has your virtual disk a fixed size or is it dynamically allocated?
