[SOLVED (deinterlacing)] Kaffeine Playing HD - Problem
« on: January 22, 2013, 01:47:48 PM »
I have set up a HTPC box on which I have PCLOS installed as well as Openelec with XBMC Ver 12 RC1 which has LiveTV capabilities.
When XBMC goes final I will be able to use it on the HTPC PCLOS install.

In the meantime I am using Kaffeine, which works well except for the problem with HD content.

There is no problem in Openelec/XBMC on the same hardware.

What happens is that Kaffeine drops a lot of the sound channel when playing HD content.

My question is ......  is there any way to 'tweak' Kaffeine that might help with this problem?

Maybe a specific driver or driver setting would help?
Output to the TV is via HDMI from on board Intel using G630 CPU.

I had been searching for a solution to this problem for some time, recently found this and pasted it to a text file future reference.
It works, I used lower buffer numbers than listed below because the numbers 500/2500  slow channel tuning. Also did not need to turn off de-interlacing.

I claim no credit for the answer:-

It turns out the problem is on channels with a higher resolution. So I modified ~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/xine-config to the following values:

engine.buffers.audio_num_buffers:500
engine.buffers.video_num_buffers:2500

In Kaffeine I turned de-interlacing off, using the menu item playback | video | then clicked on Deinterlace to turn it off. It now works fine.

I got some assistance from:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-1520004.html
PCLinux64 (on home build system) with 3.2.18.pclos.bfs kernel.
Motherboard ASROCK H61M/U3S3 Socket 1155. Processor INTEL CORE I5 2500. Intel HD300 graphics. Memory 8GB DDR3 1333Hz. H/drive  OCZ SSD Vertex 3 120gb.

Thank you!

On first try, after editing the file ~/.kde/share/apps/kaffeine/xine-config  it got overwritten by the default, so I will need to chase that down.

It seems Deinterlacing was turned on, and turning it off cured my problem!   ???

So Kaffeine is now playing most HD content .....  and for the few at higher res & bitrate, I will tweak the settings as advised above.

Thank you!

Problem solved ..... ;)
