Section suggestion

How about a child board in Packagers called Practice. New packagers could put their work in there for evaluation. For those doing the evaluations perhaps there could be a checklist to follow. Sticky the checklist so the packagers and evaluators all work with the same guidelines.

Another point is to make sure there is feed back on every submission, good or bad.

Perhaps after a certain number of perfect or nearly perfect submissions, a new packager could be upgraded to repository contributions.

If you want packagers, you really should work with new ones to help them get going.

what do you think we are doing in this section?

everyone who is willing to become a packager can ask questions and submit first results so that the more advanced packagers could check the packages.

e.g. look through the last two or three pages of this section and read the threads from sling-shot he was also a beginner and we help him to become more advanced.

you also asked questions in this section and we answered the best we know so for what do we need an extra section?

Maybe one little thing more

If you didn't see that thread as helping, I think you misunderstood everyone's intentions. The lessons that I learned from it are 1) don't change a spec file unless you are very sure it is needed, 2) if a change affects someone, let them know you are making it and ask for input, 3) even if you put your goals, or reasons in a thread, not everyone reads the entire thread all at once and may react without all the information, so don't worry about every response, and 4) just do your best and keep going. It was a good effort, and you should continue!

i clearly wrote "we"  in the sense of the packager crew and not me alone. maybe i was a bit confused there because i can't understand why working things have to be changed and i don't understand it till today.

you also wrote from reintegrating the german description. there was never an update posted that you have done this.

i'm out

OK, here's my take on packaging.
Isn't the whole point of a rolling release to update as we go? Shouldn't we use the latest libraries when we package? Shouldn't unnecessary code be eliminated to reduce bloat? How about Neal's request to combine 32-bit and 64-bit spec files so we only have to worry about one. Should we ignore him? What about questions that new packagers have when they submit practice builds. Should we just ignore them and hope they figure it out themselves?
I know these are a lot of questions and they will not be answered but maybe someone will see this and think about the future of PCLOS.
