I received a belated Xmas gift some 12 days ag, of a R-Pi Model B.
I had no suitable SDHD card and eventually ordered a couple and they arrived today.
Loaded them both with OSs and tried them out.
Rapian-wheezy ..... general Linux OS, LXDE desktop with Scratch & Idle installed and waiting for the kids it is aimed at.
Openelec-RPi ..... Openelec liveOS with XBMC Ver 12 RC included which plays LiveTV as well as Video & PVR functions.
The only 'fault' with the Pi appears to be the fact that the user needs to spend a few Euros to buy the MP2 codec if MP2 decoding is required.
My conclusion ...... nice to play with .... interesting options for the junior geek ..... probably a good intro to hardware and software which it is designed for ..... but for anything that there is a 'home' product available at reasonable price it will be found wanting in comparison.
On the other hand, there are a lot of small projects, like controlling lighting and such that it can be used for, where the commercial product either does not exist or is too costly for the home owner.
I expect to get quite a bit of fun out of it in the coming months
