[SOLVED] WiFi inop
« on: January 20, 2013, 02:31:12 PM »
Been an avid PClinuxos user since its inception, its always worked flawlessly for me, til now.  Did a fresh install of 2012-12 yesterday and now my broadcom wireless is not being recognized at all in networking.  It is being shown in the hardware list but thats all.  Broadcom 4011, any suggestions?, meanwhile I've dropped back to old version so I can use laptop.  Appears that I'm not the only one with problems........

Guess I should add that I'm able to use it wired but that negates the use of the laptop outside of the room where the router is.

Solved WiFi inop

Found the problem, the B43 directory in /lib/firmware was empty.  Copied the contents of /lib/firmware/b43 from my old working pclinuxos /lib/firmware/b43 dir into the current 2012-12 pclinuxos and viola worked like a charm.  My question now is why was the /lib/firmware/b43 dir empty on a complete new install? The ball musta been dropped somewhere along the line.

Which PCLOS flavor?

I have Broadcom working on my netbook, with the LXDE 2012-12 version.

Will try my KDE disk in live mode , after dinner

KDE, dmesg led me to the fix, missing ucode5.fw file.  Quick google search led me to site that I could download those files.  Said to unload into /lib/firmware/b43, so I looked there and it was empty, so I just copied the contents of that dir from an older working pclinuxos that I was using into the current /lib/firmware/b43 and presto everything thing worked like a charm.  Could NOT stand to be without a working PCLinuxOS

Good Luck!

The KDE liveCD  connected with no problems, via wifi, on my netbook.

I can confirm that /lib/firmware/b43 is empty on my 64bit install. I'll check my 32bit partition later.
