Kmix configuration for HDMI audio
« on: January 20, 2013, 12:23:42 AM »
I have a machine with only HDMI video/audio connection. The good news is that it works!

Kmix master volume control does not affect the sound. I clicked on Mixer but could find any other slider that controls the HDMI audio.

I clicked the  "Add View" tab and selected "all controls". Now when I open the Mixer window it is wider than my screen, even though there aren't many controls in it (i.e. lots of empty gray area on both sides of the visible controls.)  It won't resize either.

So first I would like to restore it to it default size, however, there isn't such option. Is there some configuration file I could edit (or delete) to fix that?

I also would like to configure kmix to show and use the HDMI control. I vaguely remember there should be some config file (alsa?) that would make this happen but can't remember what/where. How could I find out?

What options are provided when you

right click on the speaker icon in the tray and choose "Select Master Channel" for 'Playback Devices'?

Try each of the available options in turn, to select as the master from the right click menu, and check if any will alter the audio volume into the HDMI.

I tried that before posting.

BTW the file that configures which controls show up in the list is under ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmix/profiles/

But I still don't know how to make the HDMI conrols show up

One thing I would try is remove Kmix, delete the folder ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmix and reinstall.

Another thing I would try is running alsaconf as root to reconfigure the sound devices.
